"She knew exactly what she was doing"
A viral video showed the bizarre moment a woman approached a man in a restaurant and told him he “smelled quite nice for an Indian man”, sparking a debate on racial stereotypes.
The man had been with his family when he was told he did not “smell like curry”.
Although the date and location are unknown, the video has quickly circulated across social media, prompting criticism over the woman’s comments.
In the video, the woman approaches the man and says: “Excuse me sir, you smell quite nice for an Indian man.”
Visibly surprised, the man asks her to repeat what she said. She then reiterates the comment and adds:
“You don’t smell like curry.”
When the man asked if the comment was meant as a compliment, the woman replied: “Yes.”
The man disagrees and calls her remark “odd”.
The woman then reiterates that he smells “quite nice” for an Indian man, who replies:
“Okay, that’s very odd the way you say that. Maybe you want to revise the way you say that.”
Sounding more flustered, the woman says: “Oh okay.”
She tells the man “have a nice day” before leaving the table.

The strange interaction has since prompted criticism online, with many describing the woman’s remarks as racist and inappropriate.
One commented: “Who the hell goes around smelling people? I never smell people unless they’re my woman.”
Another said: “Bro, he was LITERALLY minding his own business.”
A third added: “She knew exactly what she was doing. These b*****s know exactly what they be doing.”
One person shared a personal experience involving a taxi and offered a different interpretation of comments about smelling like curry:
“Faced this in another country’s cab as well! They told us we don’t smell like curry!”
“What they meant is that others open their meals in the car and it causes a typical smell!
“If you go abroad, you need to respect their surroundings and not eat in the car if they’re not comfortable! Simple!”
While the woman’s intention remains unclear, the viral exchange highlights how comments about someone’s ethnicity, food or perceived smell can quickly become uncomfortable.
For the man in the video, his response focused on the wording of the remark rather than escalating the situation, leaving the interaction to end after the woman acknowledged his criticism.
