Wife says Police ignored Warnings before Husband fell into Coma f

“Doctors are saying his brain is totally damaged."

A woman has said Australian police ignored her warnings about her husband’s health shortly before he was violently arrested.

Gaurav Kundi suffered critical brain and neck injuries after his head hit the ground during the arrest and his neck was pressed on by an officer’s knee. He is currently in a coma.

His wife, Amritpal Kaur, witnessed the arrest and filmed part of it. She has described the events as “sheer horror”.

She said her husband shouted “I’ve done nothing wrong” as officers restrained him.

Amritpal stopped filming after the officer drove his knee into Gaurav’s neck.

She said: “Just 19 seconds video because I got panicked and I just sit on the ground with Gaurav.”

Amritpal recalled that her husband’s head was slammed into a police vehicle and then onto the road. He became unconscious moments later.

She continued: “I kept saying he’s not well, he’s not well, please don’t do this, just call the ambulance.”

Gaurav Kundi was later taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital. He remains on life support.

Amritpal added: “Doctors are saying his brain is totally damaged. Maybe he will wake up if brain works, or maybe he will not.”

The arrest took place on the morning of May 29 on Payneham Road. Amritpal said her husband had left the house after drinking and she had followed him.

Recalling what happened, she said: “I just go out and follow him. What are you doing here? Let’s get back home. You are drunk. You are not well. We will go home.”

Amritpal said Gaurav told her: “You get aside, I can walk.”

She believes the police may have misread the situation as a case of domestic violence:

“The policeman think he’s assaulting me and doing domestic violence on the road but policeman is wrong.

“He is just drunk and that’s why he is loud, nothing else.”

Amritpal Kaur added that the officers should have asked questions before using force.

She said:

“They needed to ask first what we were doing. (The police) can’t do this s**t with someone’s life.”

Police said Gaurav resisted arrest. Meanwhile, Amritpal Kaur claimed he was slammed into the police car and road, and that an officer also kneed him in the neck.

She stated: “His brain is damaged because policeman hit very badly on the road. On the car, his head. And his neck nerve.”

She also told police her husband had serious health issues, something they allegedly ignored.

Amritpal added: “His health is not very good and his heart is not working.”
