The highly anticipated biopic about the late Dhallywood superstar Salman Shah, titled Swapner Rajkumar, has been shelved following objections from his mother.

The film, directed by veteran filmmaker Chotku Ahmed, was set to explore various aspects of Salman’s life and career.

However, his mother Neela Chowdhury’s objections have halted progress.

Chotku revealed that he had just completed the script and was in the process of casting when Neela, who lives in London, contacted him.

The director revealed: “She asked me to stop the project.”

Neela had previously issued a legal notice prohibiting any films, dramas, or projects based on her son’s life.

While Chotku respected her wishes, he noted that she did not provide specific reasons for her objections.

Neela explained her stance, emphasising the family’s long-standing opposition to such projects.

Neela stated: “It’s been 28 years since my son passed away, and I don’t believe making movies, dramas, or songs about him is appropriate.

“Our family has always opposed these efforts.”

Chotku had initially announced his plans for the biopic during Salman’s birth anniversary, expressing his desire to honour the actor’s legacy.

He cited late filmmaker Sohanur Rahman Sohan, who discovered Salman, as a major inspiration for the project.

He explained: “Sohan always wanted to make a film about Salman’s life and career.

“Since he’s no longer with us, I took it upon myself to fulfil his dream.”

The director intended to cast young actors who idolised Salman and truly understood his impact on the industry.

Salman Shah, born on September 19, 1971, in Sylhet, made a significant impact on Bangladeshi cinema despite a brief career.

The actor became a well-known figure within just four years of entering the industry.

He passed away on September 6, 1996, under mysterious circumstances.

Salman made his acting debut in the 1993 blockbuster Keyamat Theke Keyamat, directed by Sohanur, which established his popularity alongside actress Moushumi.

Throughout his career, he starred in 27 films, with 13 featuring the beloved pairing of Salman and actress Shabnur.

Before his rise to fame, Salman was married to Samira Haque. His sudden death shocked the nation as his body was found at his residence in Dhaka.

His father filed a case alleging murder, but the circumstances surrounding Salman Shah’s death remain unresolved to date.
