Before the release of Vikram, it was widely reported that Kamal Haasan would be teaming up with Malayalam filmmaker Mahesh Narayanan for a project.

It was said the story will be based on the plot of Kshatriya Putrudu (Devar Magan).

On December 7, 2022, the news was doing the rounds that the Vishwaroopam actor has decided to shelve the project following a mutual decision by the actor and the filmmaker.

However, now, the filmmaker himself rubbished the rumours.

He said: “No no, it is not shelved. It’s Kamal Haasan sir’s script.

“Right now, he is busy with other films. So, we will get on it later.

“But, it’s not shelved. I have been a part of Raaj Kamal Films International for a long time.”

Thevar Magan, released in 1992, starred Kamal and Sivaji Ganesan.

The critically acclaimed film won five National Awards and was later remade in Hindi as Virasat and in Kannada as Thandege Thakka Maga.

Kamal Haasan is one of the most sought-after actors in the South film industry.

He has several exciting ventures in his kitty including the highly awaited sequel to his 1996 blockbuster, Indian.

After wrapping up Indian 2, the actor was going to work with director Mahesh Narayan.

After being impressed with Mahesh’s Malayalam directorial Malik, Kamal Haasan expressed his interest to collaborate with him.

It was announced that the duo will join hands on a film in 2021.

The untitled movie was said to be the sequel to the 1992 drama Thevar Magan.

It was earlier reported that the Vikram actor will be starting the shoot for the film by the end of 2022.

However, the latest buzz around the project that it has been shelved has left fans unhappy.

If the reports are to be believed, the decision was taken after a mutual discussion between the actor and director, following some creative differences.

Director Mahesh Narayan previously worked with Kamal Haasan as an editor for his movies Vishwaroopam and Vishwaroopam 2.

On the other hand, Kamal Haasan will be seen next in S Shankar’s directorial Indian 2.

The sequel will also have a Pan India release in multiple languages including Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada.

Produced by Lyca Productions in association with Red Giant Movies, the film also features Siddharth, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Bobby Simha, and Guru Somasundaram in key roles, among others.

Music composer Anirudh Ravichander has rendered the songs and background score for the film.

In addition to this, Kamal has also signed up to work with director Mani Ratnam for a film titled KH 234.

The duo earlier delivered a hit in the form of the 1987 action drama Nayakan.

Recently, Kamal Haasan spoke about the new venture.

He said: “I was equally excited 35 years before when I was about to start work with Mr Mani Ratnam. Collaborating with a similar mindset is stimulating.”

“This stimulation includes AR Rahman as well. Eagerly looking forward to present this venture with Mr Udhayanidhi Stalin.”

Meanwhile, Mahesh Narayanan is gearing up for the release of Ariyippu on OTT.

The film, which is also written by him, will stream on December 16, 2022.

The film was screened at Locarno Film Festival on August 4.

The director also has Sherlock and Phantom Hospital in the pipeline.
