A case has been registered against actor Rajat Bedi after he allegedly drove negligently and struck a pedestrian in Andheri (West) on September 6, 2021.

The incident reportedly happened at around 6:30 pm.

The victim was identified as Rajesh Doot, a married father of two. He was admitted to Cooper Hospital in Mumbai and is said to be in a critical condition.

A police officer from DN Nagar Police Station said:

“After the accident, Bedi rushed the victim to Cooper hospital and then came to the police station to report the matter.

“The actor claimed that the pedestrian was drunk and suddenly came in front of the car.

“We will check CCTV cameras on the stretch and trace witnesses to try and ascertain the sequence of events.”

An FIR was registered against Rajat under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicles Act.

No arrests have been made as of yet.

The victim’s wife, Babita Doot, said her husband was drunk at the time of the collision and sustained injuries to the back of his head.

She explained: “The incident occurred at 6.30 pm when my husband was returning from work and he was drunk.

“Actor Rajat Bedi, who was driving his car, hit my husband when he was crossing the road.

“He fell down, sustaining injuries to the back of his head.”

She went on to say that Rajat admitted the man to the hospital and promised to help the family but he left.

Babita continued: “At the hospital, Bedi told us that my husband suddenly came in front of the car.

“He assured to help us and said that both he and his driver Suresh were there at the hospital.

“But after some time, he said he was leaving briefly, but never came back.

“The DN Nagar police also visited the hospital, but they didn’t catch Bedi.

“If anything happens to my husband, Bedi will be responsible. He should be arrested.”

Babita added that the family have not been able to arrange a blood donation for her husband.

A doctor who is treating Rajesh said:

“His condition is too critical, as he sustained head injuries. He is in the ICU and on oxygen support. He urgently needs blood.”
