"You'll witness something we have not seen before..."
The makers of Ponniyin Selvan (PS) released a behind-the-scenes video on March 1, 2023.
In the video, actors Karthi, Jayram, and Jayam Ravi are seen summarising the events of PS1 and discussing the plot details of its upcoming sequel, PS2.
Lyca Productions in its official Twitter handle shared the one-minute-three-second-long video titled ‘PS2 – THE CHOLAS ARE BACK’.
The post’s caption read: “A tiny glimpse into all the fun the team had while making #PS1 and #PS2! #PS2 in theatres worldwide from April 28.”
In the short clip, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, and Vikram greet the audience and tease the audience about what they can expect from the second instalment of Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus.
The clip starts with Jayam Ravi talking about the film: “Ponniyin Selvan combines, real and fictional incidents…”
In the next frame, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, and Jayaram can be seen laughing, when Jayaram says, “Everything can’t be disclosed now…”
Next, the clip shows Vikram, Karthi, and Jayam Ravi introducing their characters.
Vikram says: “Greetings from Aditha Karikalan”, Karthi says: “I am Vallavarayan Vanthiyathevan” and Jayam Ravi says: “I am Ponniyin Selvan.”
The clip was followed by Karthi talking about the sequel.

He says: “You’ll witness something we have not seen before…”
Vikram hypes the anticipation around the film and says: “A beautiful love story and the incidents that turn it villainous…”
Jayam Ravi also teases fans with an update about his role in the film:
“There’s a family in agony not knowing whether Arunmozhi Varman is alive or not.”
The video also offers a glimpse of the female leads in the film, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Trisha.
PS1, released in 2022, became a blockbuster, crossing over Rs 500 crore globally.
The cast of the film also includes Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Jayaram, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, R. Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Prakash Raj, Rahman, R. Parthiban and Lal, among others.
Aishwarya Rai is said to be playing dual roles in Ponniyin Selvan, the queen Nandini, and Oomai Rani, a mysterious saviour-type figure, who makes an appearance right towards the end of Ponniyin Selvan 1.
The two-part historical epic is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s 1955 novel, ‘Ponniyin Selvan’, which centres around the power struggles and internal conflicts of the Chola dynasty.
Ponniyin Selvan 2 will release in cinemas on April 28, 2023.
The film will be released in five regional languages – Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada.
