The second part of filmmaker Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan is all set to hit theatres worldwide on April 28, 2023.

Taking to Twitter on December 28, 2022, Lyca Productions shared the teaser of the film.

It featured Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Karthi, and Jayam Ravi.

The caption read: “Let’s get those swords in the air as we await the 28th of April 2023!”

It included the hashtags ‘Cholas are back’, ‘PS1′, ‘PS2’ and ‘Ponniyin Selvan’.

The story of the second part will continue from the point where Arunmozhi Varman (Jayam Ravi) was shown to be drowning.

Mani Ratnam has co-written the screenplay along with Elango Kumaravel, and AR Rahman will score the film’s music.

Ponniyin Selvan also features Trisha Krishnan, Prakash Raj, Jayaram, Sobhita Dhulipala, and Aishwarya Lekshmi, among others.

In the film, Aishwarya is seen in dual roles.

These include Queen Nandini, the princess of Pazhuvoor, who is on a mission to seek vengeance, and Mandakini Devi.

Karthi essays the role of Vanthiyathevan, a brave and adventurous warrior, alongside Vikram starring as Aditha Karikalan, Jayam Ravi as Arulmozhivarman, and Trisha Krishnan as Kundavai.

Ponniyin Selvan-I was released worldwide in September 2022 in Tamil along with the dubbed versions in Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, and Malayalam.

The film is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

The film opened to good reviews from the critics and received immense applause from the audience as well.

The much-anticipated film collected over Rs. 300 crores worldwide in all languages.

The film was backed by Mani Ratnam’s production house Madras Talkies and Allirajah Subaskaran’s banner Lyca Productions.

Meanwhile, fans on Twitter couldn’t keep calm after the film update was shared.

Sharing a still of Aishwarya Rai from the teaser, one fan commented: “Queen.”

Another Twitter user simply wrote, “Aditya Karikalan and Nandini” (the names of Vikram and Aishwarya Rai’s respective characters) along with fire emojis.

The historical drama is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s 1955 Tamil novel of the same name.

It chronicles the story of the early days of Arulmozhivarman, one of the most powerful kings in the south, who went on to become the great Chola emperor Rajaraja Chola I.

He ruled the Chola empire in the 10th century.

Following the success of part 1, in November, the makers hosted a success party in Chennai, and several pictures from the party went viral on social media.
