"asking the audience to file an official complaint"
Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan 2 has fallen victim to piracy, with the full film being leaked online.
The film released in cinemas on April 28, 2023, to critical acclaim. Many fans are celebrating the film and posting the pictures on social media.
However, a pirated version of the film has been leaked.
It is reported that it has appeared in HD format on multiple sites, inviting fans to download it.
The film has reportedly been leaked on Tamilrockers, Telegram and MovieRulz, which are known for having pirated versions of the latest releases.
The day before its theatrical release, the filmmakers requested audiences to watch Ponniyin Selvan 2 in theatres to show that they are against piracy.
The filmmakers also shared a link, asking the audience to file an official complaint if they come across pirated versions of the film.
Despite pirate copies appearing online, no action has been taken by the filmmakers yet.
This is not the first time that a film has been leaked on the first day of its release.
The likes of Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, Shakuntala, Bheed and Pathaan have all faced similar leaks earlier in 2023.
Ponniyin Selvan 2 stars Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha and Karthi.
It has been released to rave reviews, with many saying it is better than its predecessor, which came out in September 2022.
One fan said: “Ponniyin Selvan Part 2. The biggest movie in the Tamil industry the great Raja Raja Cholan history movie.”
Another commented: “Ponniyin Selvan 2 – First half is largely engaging.
“The 15-minute interval sequence is the best of Mani Ratnam in ages. Very well-conceived and directed.”
A third said: “Mani Ratnam deserves MAD respect for bringing such a magnificent and brilliant movie!
“Wonderful storyline, the characters, the visuals, dialogues and music. Vikram, Aishwarya Rai and Trisha steal the show.”
A user said it is best to watch the film on the big screen, writing:
“One of the best Indian movies I have seen in my life. Period.”
“The way the actors are trying to act is so good. When you get so many actors together, the greatest problem a director could face is to use them accordingly.
“Some actors could get better roles, some could get so much screen time.
“That’s where you can see the professional Mani Ratnam. Everyone got important roles and there was nobody who got a better screen space than others.”
In its review, Hindustan Times said Aishwarya delivered a career-best performance and said:
“With Ponniyin Selvan 2 aka PS 2, Ratnam shows how one can still make historical films without relying too much on grand, over-the-top action sequences but purely on drama that keeps you pinned right till the end.”
