CCTV footage showed Maya forcing Maham into a white car.
A Bahawalpur woman who met her husband through PUBG allegedly kidnapped her sister-in-law and fled with stolen jewellery and cash.
The incident, which has garnered significant attention, led to the registration of an FIR based on Khalid Mehmood’s complaint.
Khalid, a security guard, claimed that Maya Ali abducted his daughter, Maham Ali.
Maya Ali met her husband, Kashan Mehmood through PUBG. She is accused of stealing valuables.
This includes gold jewellery and Rs. 100,000 (£280) in cash.
Maya and Kashan began communicating through the game and eventually moved their conversations to WhatsApp.
They stayed in touch for around three years.
During their chats, Maya confided in Kashan, claiming that her parents planned to sell her, which led her to propose marriage.
Kashan, initially hesitant, was moved by her situation. However, his mother rejected the idea of marriage.
But Maya persisted, arriving in Bahawalpur from Dera Ismail Khan and pleading with Kashan’s family.
After an intense plea where she even held their feet in desperation, they consented to a court marriage on June 30, 2024.
During the early stages of her marriage, Maya got to know Kashan’s sister Maham.
The situation took a darker turn on November 2, when Maya, under the pretext of going for a walk, kidnapped Maham.
CCTV footage showed Maya forcing Maham into a white car.
The police confirmed that Maya was accompanied by her mother, Tasleem Akhtar, and her brothers during the abduction.
Police suspect Maya and her family allegedly conspired together in the kidnapping.
The case has sparked attention as the investigation faces hurdles due to jurisdictional issues, as the accused are located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, beyond the reach of Bahawalpur police without additional legal permissions.
The District Police Officer (DPO) of Bahawalpur has formally requested assistance from the IG Punjab Police to help apprehend the suspects.
This bizarre case has shocked the local community.
This is not the first case involving kidnapping linked to PUBG.
In April 2021, Sindh Police successfully recovered a 17-year-old girl who had been kidnapped by two PUBG Mobile game addicts.
The girl had been playing the game with the two men for three months.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) AVCC Abdullah Ahmed, the teenager was found in Karachi’s Cant Station area.
The kidnappers were eventually located and taken into custody.
