told her to marry him if she wanted to see her father alive.

An Indian woman from Delhi refused to get married to her fiancé after she found out he was cheating on her. The 24-year-old man reacted by abducting her father.

The man, identified as Sanjeev, also known as Sanju, had gotten to know the young woman through a mutual friend. They began dating in 2018.

There had been marriage talks between the two, but the woman’s family were initially against the idea. They got engaged in 2019 after she managed to convince them.

However, days after the engagement, she discovered that her fiancé had been cheating on her with several women. He was even engaged to one of them.

The Indian woman confronted Sanjeev about his affairs and subsequently called off the wedding.

Sanjeev became upset over the split and began stalking his ex-girlfriend. He asked her to reconsider her decision.

However, when she refused to change her mind, he became angry and threatened her family.

The woman’s family returned to their home city of Bhopal, however, her father stayed in Delhi for work.

Sanjeev knew that his ex-girlfriend was not in the city. He planned to kidnap her father and asked his friends Ankur, Hansraj and Johnny to help.

The four young men borrowed a car and drove to Palam village where the woman’s father worked as a shop cashier.

On May 26, 2019, as the man arrived at work, the suspects dragged him into the vehicle and left for Mathura.

On the way, Sanjeev forced the man to phone his daughter and tell her that she should marry Sanjeev as he was “a good boy”.

Sometime later, Sanjeev phoned his ex-girlfriend and told her to marry him if she wanted to see her father alive.

Sanjeev’s employer found out about the abduction and informed the police. They spent a day trying to trace the suspects before tracking him down in Mathura. He was at a hotel with the victim.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Anto Alphonse said:

“Sanju was arrested on Monday night from Mathura with the help of technical surveillance after a team headed by ACP Rajinder Singh Yadav and Inspector Sanjay Kumar rescued the victim.

“The daughter told investigators that she knew Sanju and suspected he could have kidnapped her father.”

“The police teams tracked the locations of the mobile numbers from where calls had been made to the girl in Baraut, Meerut and finally Mathura.”

Sanjeev was arrested and questioned. He told police that he wanted to marry the man’s daughter but her refusal led to him committing the kidnap in an attempt to change her mind.

While Sanjeev is in custody, his accomplices are still on the run.

DCP Alphonse added: “Sanju borrowed a car from a friend and joined three friends to execute his crime. A hunt is on to nab his friends.”
