Mishi Khan has called out Pakistani celebrities and influencers for “selling out”, claiming they are greedy.

A controversy has emerged involving several prominent stars, including Sanam Saeed, Saboor Aly, Mikaal Zulfiqar, Saba Faisal, Aima Baig and Urwa Hocane.

These celebrities were seen giving shoutouts to the Government of Punjab and endorsing their initiatives undertaken during their 100 days in office.

Additionally, many social media influencers also joined in supporting the government’s narrative.

Saba Faisal wrote: “CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s initiatives will revolutionise agriculture in Punjab!

“The Kisaan Card, modern machinery, solar panels for tube wells, agriculture internships, and research centres are a testament to her commitment to their welfare.

“These efforts will surely enhance productivity, improve lives, and ensure a brighter future for our farmers.

“Appreciating CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s dedication to Punjab’s agricultural growth!”

Urwa Hocane captioned her video: “Glad to see Punjab leading the way in women’s safety!

“Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s initiatives in her first 100 days as Chief Minister of Punjab are truly commendable!

“Projects like Women’s safety app, virtual women’s police stations, and E-buses for public transport and women hostels are a true reflection of women empowerment. Keep up the great work, CM Sahiba!”

However, this endorsement came at a time when public sentiment was already charged due to controversies surrounding the new government.

This was due to its formation and the imposition of significant taxes on the public.

Farmers, in particular, have faced immense challenges, with reports of difficulties in selling their wheat crop this year.

As news of these celebrity shoutouts spread, a wave of backlash followed.

This led to some deleting their videos while others disabled the comments section on their posts.

Influencers like Hamza Bhatti, Wild Lens by Abrar and Nadeem Mubarak were among those who spoke against these celebrities.

They alleged that these stars had been paid by the government to record these shoutouts.

Amid the controversy, Mishi Khan openly criticised the celebrities who engaged in paid shoutouts.

She said: “During a time like this, when people are struggling to pay their bills, instead of paying off the IMF loan, you are giving so much money to celebrities of Karachi to praise work being done another province?

“I just saw a post where a man is begging for someone to buy his kidney so he can pay his electricity bill.

“The celebrities who have accepted the money, have you no empathy?”

“Do you have any idea what people are going through? Do you not have enough money? Do you not lead a lavish life?

“Can you not say no instead of selling out? Have some sense. Have some concerns.”

Mishi Khan’s remarks further intensified the public discourse surrounding the issue.
