With big names like Julien Macdonald and high street brand Topshop plus a whole host of new talent, London Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2015 promises to be quite a show.
Recent statistics have found over the past five years that the UK fashion sector has grown considerably: it is now worth £26 billion, increasing from £21 billion in 2009. Such figures show the continuing importance of this dynamic industry in the UK and its huge significance to our economy.
Organised by the British Fashion Council, London Fashion Week (LFW) first took place in 1984. It is classed as one of the ‘big four’ fashion weeks, along with Paris, New York and Milan, and offers up some of the best designers worldwide.
With LFW currently in its 30th year, it is understandably one of the highest profile fashion events in the world. This creative industry continues to flourish due to the hard work of innovative designers and the success of such hugely popular fashion events.
Taking place at Somerset House in Central London, attendees of LFW will enjoy fashion shows, presentations, showrooms and more. 80 designers are expected to show presentations or catwalk collections over a 5-day schedule.
Plus there are over 170 UK and international exhibitors showcasing in the Designer Showrooms. This includes ready-to-wear and accessory designers, both established and up-and-coming.
A massive turn-up is likely – over 5,000 visitors are expected, from buyers to press. It is reported that the event’s media coverage ‘equals or exceeds most major news and international sporting events’. Live-streaming and social media also allow the public to get in on the experience.
