"We did not know what to do in the situation."

An Indian bride collapsed and later died during her wedding ceremony. The marriage then resulted in the groom tying the knot with the deceased’s sister.

The bizarre incident happened in the Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh.

Garlands were exchanged and other ceremonies had been complete.

However, during the final stages, the bride, named Surabhi, suddenly fell ill and collapsed next to the groom Manjesh Kumar.

Concerned family members called a doctor to the house.

The doctor revealed that Surabhi had passed away, saying she suffered a major cardiac arrest.

The bride’s sudden death prompted panic in the house and the celebrations turned into mourning.

Both families then sat down and came to an agreement that the bride’s younger sister should marry the groom.

Surabhi’s brother Saurabh said:

“We did not know what to do in the situation.

“Both the families sat together and someone suggested that my younger sister Nisha should be married to the groom.

“The families discussed the matter and both agreed.”

Due to the situation, the sister, named Nisha, accepted the proposal.

A short while later, the marriage of Manjesh was solemnised with Nisha.

Meanwhile, Surabhi’s body was kept in another room. When the wedding had finished and the procession had left, Surabhi’s last rites were held.

The uncle, Ajab Singh, said: “It was a tough call for our family.

“One daughter lay dead in one room and the wedding of another daughter was being solemnised in the other room.

“We have never witnessed such mixed emotions.

“The grief over her death and the happiness of the wedding has yet to sink in.”

Bizarre wedding cases are not uncommon in India.

In one incident, a bride married one of her guests after the groom disappeared from the wedding venue.

Both the bride and groom had turned up to the ceremony and carried out the necessary marriage ceremonies, including the exchange of garlands.

The families were getting ready for the main wedding ceremony when the groom suddenly disappeared.

Both families began searching for the groom. Meanwhile, the bride was upset at the sudden turn of events.

After searching for some time, the bride’s family discovered that the groom was not missing.

In actual fact, he ran away on purpose. However, it is not known why he fled his own wedding.

Seeing the bride’s family upset, one of the guests suggested that the marriage should take place with another man.

The bride’s family searched for and eventually found a boy. After speaking to the young man and his family, the marriage was agreed upon.

The marriage then took place at the same venue.

After the wedding, the Indian bride and her family filed a police complaint against the groom and his family.
