Indian Man killed Wife and Slept next to Her for Night

Indian man Prem Singh, aged 30, from Delhi, was arrested on Wednesday, March 6, 2019, for murdering his wife and then sleeping next to her corpse.

He strangled Babli, aged 28, following an argument over his constant drinking habits.

Police said Babli used to work in a beauty parlour while Singh worked with a private satellite TV service provider.

Singh had a drinking problem and would often come home drunk. This would lead to frequent arguments between the couple.

The husband and wife have two children, aged five and seven. The children live with their relatives in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura.

On Tuesday, March 5, 2019, Singh came home drunk to their rented property in Nihar Vihar, Delhi.

The two had an argument after Babli complained about his constant drinking and coming home intoxicated.

This led to an altercation which resulted in Singh strangling his wife to death.

He then slept next to her lifeless body for the night before fleeing the scene the next morning.

The body was discovered and taken to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital where a post-mortem was conducted. It confirmed that Babli was strangled.

Singh became the prime suspect in the case after he disappeared. Some of the neighbours also informed the police about his drinking problems which led to regular arguments.

Police searched a number of possible locations before they eventually arrested Singh in Rajasthan.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Seju Kuruvilla said:

“We raided various hideouts of the suspect’s and eventually caught him in Rajasthan.”

During the interrogation, Singh admitted strangling his wife to death. He also told police that he slept next to the body before running away the next morning.

In a statement, Singh told police that he returned home drunk on the night of the incident. He then got into an altercation with his wife after she began reprimanding him for coming home drunk every night.

Singh was booked under the charges of murder and a case was registered against him at Nihal Vihar police station.

He was produced before the court and was jailed for committing the crime.

Kuruvilla added: “He was produced before a Delhi court that has sent him to jail. The couple had moved to this rented house less than a week before the crime.”

In another incident where alcohol led to a violent crime, a man from Uttar Pradesh confessed to raping his three-year-old daughter following an argument with his wife.

The man came home drunk and argued with his wife. After she left the house to go stay with a relative, the man raped his daughter while she was sleeping.

He went on the run but was arrested at his place of work. The man initially denied the allegations but later confessed to the crime.
