An Indian man has been arrested for murdering his wife in a jealous rage.
The unnamed businessman is from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
It is reported that he strangled his wife of 15 years in front of their two children inside their SUV on the Purvanchal Expressway in Sultanpur.
According to police, his motive appeared to be his deep-seated “inferiority complex”, which stemmed from his wife’s large Instagram following.
The victim’s Instagram account, which is currently private, is to be examined by officers.
Officers said the woman enjoyed a substantial following on Instagram and her husband was jealous of this.
Due to this, the couple frequently argued.
The victim reportedly blocked her husband on the social media site, intensifying his insecurity.
This led him to suspect that some of her followers would visit her in his absence, escalating the tension in their relationship.
Kurebhar SHO Praveen Kumar Yadav said:
“The accused owns a tour and travel agency while his wife was a homemaker.
“The couple lived in the Para locality of Lucknow with their 12-year-old daughter and a five-year-old son.”
Speaking about the violent murder, SHO Yadav said the couple and their children went on a journey to Rae Bareli on the morning of August 13, 2023.
But instead, they diverted to the Purvanchal Expressway.
At around 5 am, the Indian man stopped the car and began arguing with his wife over her substantial Instagram following.
The argument continued to become more heated until the enraged man strangled his wife, killing her.
Their horrified children witnessed the killing unfold and burst into tears, traumatised by the incident.
Meanwhile, the man locked the SUV.
Suspicion arose when a patrolling team of officials noticed that the car was not parked properly and the family members were sitting there in silence.
They promptly alerted officers from the nearest police station.
Upon their arrival, the daughter told officers that her father had murdered her mother.
Based on her statement, the Indian man was arrested and an investigation is ongoing.
In India, cases of husbands killing their spouses for various reasons are unfortunately not uncommon.
In 2020, a man was arrested for strangling his wife to death for spending his money on her relatives.
Jipender Singh had a love marriage with Lakhi Jaatav in 2015.
It was reported that they were from different castes. Due to this, their families did not get along.
After the marriage, the couple moved to the city of Aligarh where they lived in a rented apartment.
Singh worked in the city at a private finance company.
Singh later found out that Lakhi had been spending his salary on her relatives which angered him to the point that he wanted to kill her.
