An Indian man was arrested on Sunday, February 9, 2020, for murdering his wife.

The murder came to light on January 30 when the 24-year-old victim’s body was found in a ravine in Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh.

Police identified the perpetrator as Jipender Singh. Following his arrest, he told police that he strangled his wife to death after she spent his money on her relatives.

During the investigation, police officers discovered that Singh had a love marriage with Lakhi Jaatav in 2015. The couple has a four-year-old daughter.

It was reported that they were from different castes. Due to this, their families did not get along.

After the marriage, the couple moved to the city of Aligarh where they lived in a rented apartment.

Singh worked in the city at a private finance company.

Singh later found out that Lakhi had been spending his salary on her relatives which angered him to a point that he wanted to kill her.

Police Superintendent Rajesh Kumar explained: “During interrogation, the accused claimed that the couple had problems from the initial days of their marriage.

“After their marriage, his wife constantly badgered him to shift to Aligarh permanently after selling off his ancestral property.

“After a while, Jipender came to know that his wife was spending his salary on her relatives and this infuriated him. Then, he plotted to get rid of her.

“On the night of January 29, he drove his wife and daughter to his ancestral village. After reaching home, at around 1 am on January 30, he allegedly strangled his wife to death.

“Later, he drove to Nai Tor village in Firozabad district and dumped her body in a nullah (ravine).”

Lakhi’s body was discovered later that day and the police were informed. A murder investigation was launched and Singh was taken for questioning where he confessed to the crime.

SI Kumar stated that while Singh acted alone in the murder, he believes that his relatives helped him get rid of the body.

He added: “It was a pre-planned murder which he executed alone.

“But, to dispose of the body, we believe the accused took help of his relatives.”

The Times of India reported that Lakhi and her family were from the city of Hathras.

Following his confession, the Indian man was arrested. Police also questioned Lakhi’s father. Based on his statement, Singh was charged under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
