A Bihar man was burnt alive by his own brother and sister-in-law over a land dispute.

The tragic incident unfolded in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur on January 23, 2025.

According to the reports, the victim, Sudhir Kumar, was also differently-abled.

Sudhir was tied to an electric pole, beaten mercilessly, and then set on fire after being doused with kerosene.

The altercation was sparked after an argument between Sudhir and his sister-in-law Neetu Devi, reportedly over land.

Following the dispute, Neetu, along with Sudhir’s elder brother, subjected him to brutal torture.

A local watchman discovered the horrific scene and alerted the police.

Upon arrival, officers recovered Sudhir’s body and sent it for post-mortem.

Neetu Devi was arrested at the scene and has reportedly confessed to the crime.

The police are actively conducting raids to apprehend her husband, who remains on the run.

Sushil Kumar, the Senior Superintendent of Police in the Sakra police station area, confirmed the details and ensured that a thorough investigation is underway.

He said: “We have sent the body for post-mortem. His brother and sister-in-law are said to be involved in the murder.

“The woman has been arrested. We are investigating the case and trying to arrest the other accused.”

Disturbingly, this is not the first instance of such a gruesome crime in India.

Property disputes have sparked similar atrocities in the country in recent months.

In October 2024, a man named Mukesh was burned alive by his father, elder brother, and sister-in-law at their home on Diwan Road.

According to police, the family had long-standing conflicts over property. Mukesh was locked inside the house and set ablaze by his relatives.

In another shocking case from December 2024, a 26-year-old man named Dharmesh in Ramapur village burned his father alive.

Aided by his girlfriend, Sangeeta, he committed the heinous crime over suspicions that he would be denied his share of farmland.

The charred remains of the victim, Ramu, were later found in a 30-foot-deep well in the fields.

During questioning, the son admitted to the crime, revealing that the murder was premeditated.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police stated: “Dharmesh and Sangeeta confronted Ramu in the field, demanding the transfer of the property.

“When Ramu refused, an argument ensued. Dharmesh pushed his father into the bore well to burn him alive.”

These incidents highlight a disturbing pattern of familial violence linked to disputes over land and assets.

Public anger has been directed at the lack of education and awareness in rural areas, which many believe exacerbates such issues.
