"That is the truth of our industry."

Emraan Hashmi has called Bollywood “fake”, despite being a part of the industry for nearly 20 years.

He also revealed that he prefers to distance himself from the glitz and glamour, once his work is done.

The actor stated that he has followed a “work ethic” ever since he started out in Bollywood.

In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Emraan was asked if he stays away because he finds the industry “fake”, where people hype others to their faces but also tear them down behind their backs.

Emraan confirmed that was one of the main reasons. He also said people should be able to separate their professional and personal lives.

He stated: “This is a fact. There are no two ways about it. That is the truth of our industry.

“But it is not just because of that. I think a person’s life should be more than just their profession.”

Emraan Hashmi explained that he remains grounded because of the friends he has known for years and who have no involvement in the film industry.

He also credited his family for keeping him grounded and said that he is grateful for their criticism as it gives him a “realistic perspective”.

The actor added that after spending so much time on set, he distances himself as it helps him maintain his sanity.

On the work front, Emraan Hashmi is getting ready for the release of Sanjay Gupta’s gangster drama Mumbai Saga, which is set to release on March 19, 2021.

The film stars John Abraham, Kajal Aggarwal, Mahesh Manjrekar, Suniel Shetty, Prateik Babbar, Rohit Roy, Gulshan Grover and Amole Gupte in pivotal roles.

Mumbai Saga follows the journey of Bombay becoming Mumbai and will highlight crucial events during the 1980s and 1990s.

It marks Sanjay Gupta’s return to the gangster-drama genre after Shootout at Wadala, which was released in 2013.

After that, Emraan will be seen in Chehre alongside Amitabh Bachchan. It is set to release on April 30, 2021.

The collaboration between Amitabh and Emraan had disappointed Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

This was due to the fact that Emraan had directed a jibe towards her. On an episode of Koffee with Karan, Emraan called Aishwarya “fake and plastic”.

It was reported that since then, Emraan has been in her bad books and it even resulted in her rejecting Badshaaho.

However, Emraan later said the remark was made in jest.
