Locals demanded that the sign be taken down.
Actor Emraan Hashmi’s film crew has run into significant trouble with residents while shooting in the holy city of Haridwar.
A video from the shooting location went viral online after a heated confrontation broke out between locals and the production team.
The controversy began when the crew built a temporary set to shoot a specific scene for Hashmi’s upcoming film in the city.
According to a Dainik Bhaskar report, the production team had constructed a fake restaurant as part of the set for this particular sequence.
The trouble started when the crew put up a large and highly visible signboard on the set that read “Cafe & Bar.”
As soon as residents and members of various Hindu organisations noticed the sign, they became deeply upset and strongly objected to it.
Haridwar is widely recognised as one of the holiest pilgrimage cities in India, where alcohol is strictly banned due to its religious status.
The protesters argued that displaying a sign with the word “Bar” on it, even for fictional purposes, was deeply inappropriate.
They felt the signboard showed a lack of respect and hurt the religious sentiments of the people and devotees.
A heated argument quickly broke out between the residents and the film’s production team as tensions escalated rapidly at the location.
Locals demanded that the sign be taken down immediately out of respect.
The situation eventually calmed down, but not before videos of the confrontation had already flooded social media.
In the widely shared footage, crew members and security guards can be seen stepping in to control the angry crowd.
While Emraan Hashmi himself is nowhere to be seen in the viral clips, a spokesperson from the production team is present.

That spokesperson can be seen actively speaking with the protesters in an attempt to calm the situation.
According to local reports, the entire matter was finally resolved when the crew agreed to remove the word “Bar” from the signboard.
On the professional front, Emraan Hashmi will next star in Awarapan 2, the much-awaited sequel to the original 2007 film Awarapan.
Awarapan 2 is set to release in theatres on August 14, 2026. However, the film will not have an easy or undisputed run when it eventually arrives in cinemas.
It is heading straight into a major theatrical clash with Sunny Deol’s upcoming period drama Batwara 1947.
