The project has been promoted using his name.
Salman Khan has approached the Delhi High Court seeking an immediate stay on the production and release of Kala Hiran: Battle for Legacy.
The 60-year-old actor has alleged that the film violates his personality and publicity rights through its content and promotional material.
In his plea, Salman claimed that the film is directly inspired by the 1998 blackbuck case involving him and his ongoing legal proceedings.
He further alleged that the film’s posters, teaser and promotional material clearly identify him through unmistakable visual and contextual references.
According to the petition, the makers used a lookalike actor wearing Salman’s signature bracelet as part of the film’s promotional imagery.
He also alleged that the project has been promoted using his name for commercial gain without his consent or authorisation in any form.
The first look of the film had been scheduled to release on the same day that this legal development came to light.
The petition names producer Amit Jani, Jani Firefox Films, Akshay Pandey and others as respondents in the case before the Delhi High Court.
Salman has argued that the film could prejudice ongoing legal proceedings related to the blackbuck case and cause irreparable harm to his reputation.
He has sought a comprehensive injunction against the film’s production, promotion, release, streaming and the circulation of any related promotional material.
The Delhi High Court is scheduled to hear the interim injunction application as the matter moves forward through the legal process.
This latest development comes just days after Salman’s legal team sent a formal notice to the makers of Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy.
That notice alleged that the film is based on the actor’s ongoing blackbuck poaching case and sought an immediate halt to its release.
It also demanded the removal of all posters and promotional material associated with the project from public circulation entirely.
The notice additionally warned the makers of further and more serious legal action should they fail to comply with the demands.
Producer Amit Jani responded to the legal notice on June 2, 2026, firmly denying the claims made by Salman Khan’s legal team.
He maintained that the film is based solely on information already available in the public domain and is not centred on Salman Khan personally.
Amit described the notice as premature and stated that the film is “not a biopic on Salman Khan.”
He called the legal action “unnecessary,” pointing out that only a poster had been released so far with nothing else revealed.
He noted that the teaser had been scheduled to arrive on June 20, 2026, meaning very little of the film’s actual content had been shown.
According to him, the film instead focuses on the Bishnoi community’s long-standing struggle to protect wildlife in the region.
He framed the project as a broader exploration of real-life legal battles and events rather than a story centred on any single individual.
Kala Hiran: Battle for Legacy is directed by Bharat S Shrinate and produced by Amit Jani under Firefox Media Private Limited.
