Is this the beginning of something genuine?
BBC’s EastEnders is not a stranger to introducing unlikely bonds and romances between characters.
Fans only have to remember the surprising relationship between Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) and Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace).
The shocking fling between Max Branning (Jake Wood) and Lucy Beale (Hetti Bywater) also had people scratching their heads, both in the show and among the audience.
However, EastEnders is set to introduce another unexpected bond between two characters.
Upcoming scenes of the show will see Priya Nandra-Hart (Sophie Khan Levy) defending Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) against his estranged fiancee Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins).
Cindy is currently living in fear following Christmas 2024 when she was attacked by a mystery person.
Since then, she has been accusing everyone she can, and she presently believes that Ian was her attacker.
After a row between Ian and Cindy sends accusations flying, Priya steps in to rescue Ian.
Ian accidentally offends Priya but they later share a drink in the Queen Vic pub.
Priya and Ian also attempt to make their respective former partners – Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara) and Cindy – jealous, but Cindy soon starts scheming.
Back at Ian’s house, Priya and Ian have another drink together and share a surprisingly warm moment.
However, they are soon interrupted by Ian’s mother Kathy Cotton (Gillian Taylforth).
When Priya joins the Beale family for a meal, Kathy passes some harsh comments, resulting in Priya storming out, leading Ian to go after her.
Is this the beginning of something genuine between Priya and Ian, or could disaster lie ahead?
Ian Beale is the show’s longest-serving male character. Adam has played him since the first episode in February 1985.
Ian departed the show in January 2021, but returned briefly for Dot Branning’s (June Brown) funeral in December 2022.
He made a permanent comeback to Walford alongside Cindy in August 2023.
Meanwhile, Priya joined the show in 2023, as the long-lost mother of Davinder ‘Nugget’ Gulati (Juhaim Rasul Choudhury).
She also has a daughter named Avani Nandra-Hart (Aaliyah James).
Recent episodes of EastEnders showed Priya develop feelings for Ravi once again and she was heartbroken when it emerged that he was in a secret relationship with Denise Fox (Diane Parish).
EastEnders is currently gearing up for its explosive 40th anniversary, which will see the show go live on February 20, 2025.
The occasion will include the return of Grant Mitchell (Ross Kemp) and viewer interaction for the first time.
The identity of Cindy’s attacker will also be revealed.
