“Why shouldn't they be made?”

In light of the ongoing controversy surrounding the Telangana government’s ban on Diljit Dosanjh’s alcohol-themed songs, Badshah has expressed his support.

Speaking at the Sahitya Aaj Tak event on November 21, 2024, Badshah highlighted the double standards in the scrutiny faced by musicians.

He pointed out how alcohol is readily available across the nation.

Badshah echoed Diljit’s recent remarks that he would cease performing alcohol-themed songs only when liquor shops are closed nationwide.

This statement came after Diljit was advised not to promote alcohol during one of his concerts.

Badshah, who considers Diljit an elder brother, said:

“He is totally right. You are telling him not to sing or make songs about alcohol, but then you’re selling liquor everywhere.

“Why shouldn’t they be made?”

The rapper emphasised that an artist’s work reflects society, making their voices relevant.

He noted that musicians articulate sentiments that resonate with the public.

Badshah continued: “If you don’t want him to sing about something, then that thing shouldn’t be in society in the first place.”

The rapper suggested that the government must be grappling with issues that are not apparent to the public.

Reflecting on his personal relationship with Diljit Dosanjh, Badshah described him as an inspirational figure and a mentor.

The two have collaborated on popular tracks such as ‘Proper Patola’ and ‘Naina’ from Crew.

Badshah shared: “He means a lot to me because he is like an elder brother. Whenever I face a problem, he has always been there to guide me.”

The ‘Soulmate’ singer also addressed the prevalence of gun culture in music, particularly in Punjab.

He acknowledged that their upbringing in a culture that glorifies machismo influences their songwriting.

He explained: “We come from a place that represents machismo and alpha male. Bullets fly in our weddings.

“I’m not promoting this, but this is the culture we have grown up with.”

When asked about his relationship with Pakistani actress Hania Aamir, Badshah dismissed any dating rumours and insisted that they are simply good friends.

Badshah said: “We have a good connection and have fun whenever we meet. There is nothing else to it.”

As for his artistic approach, Badshah described himself as not particularly disciplined, believing that creativity often thrives in a less structured environment.

He added: “I wouldn’t be an artist if I was disciplined. Discipline binds you.”
