"this is being done by another woman"
Rakul Preet Singh slammed Telangana minister Konda Surekha for using her name for political gain.
The minister ignited a significant controversy with her recent allegations against Bharat Rashtra Samiti Chief KT Rama Rao (KTR).
Surekha claimed that KTR is responsible for getting Telugu actresses addicted to drugs and purportedly used phone tapping to blackmail them.
She also mentioned that KTR’s actions played a role in Samantha Ruth Prabhu‘s divorce.
Surekha said: “It is KT Rama Rao because of whom Samantha’s divorce happened… two to three heroines have also got married early due to drug cases.
“Rakul Preet got married and other two to three heroines as well. Why do we have to bear this headache (of the drug cases) and get married soon?
“He was a minister at that time and used to tap the phones of the actresses and then find their weaknesses to blackmail them…”
While the minister later issued an apology for her comments, the fallout has prompted strong reactions from various actresses.
Rakul Preet Singh voiced her concerns in a detailed post on X.
She expressed her dismay at the “baseless and vicious rumours” being circulated about women in the entertainment industry.
Rakul wrote: “Telugu Film Industry is known worldwide for its creativity and professionalism.
“I’ve had a great journey in this beautiful industry and still very much connected.
“It pains to hear such baseless and vicious rumours being spread about the women of this fraternity.
“What’s more disheartening is the fact that this is being done by another woman who’s supposedly in a very responsible position.
“For the sake of dignity, we choose to remain silent but it is misconstrued as our weakness.”

Hitting out at the minister, Rakul continued:
“I am absolutely apolitical and have nothing to do with any person/political party, whatsoever.
“I urge you to stop using my name in a malicious way to gain political mileage.”
“Artists and creative personalities should be kept out of political slugfest and their names should not be used to grab headlines by linking them with fictitious stories.”
On the work front, Rakul Preet Singh is set to appear in the upcoming film De De Pyaar De 2.
In the sequel to the 2019 comedy, Ajay Devgn will return, and he will be joined by R Madhavan.
Fans can look forward to the film hitting theatres on May 1, 2025.
