"I hope to use my platform to bring attention to the issue"
Shubh has been appointed as a United Nations Global Ambassador for the Digital Climate Library (DCL).
It is a historic moment as he is the first Indian musician to be appointed in the role.
The announcement was made during COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The Digital Climate Library is designed to amplify climate awareness and innovation on a global scale and the initiative digitizes and preserves the UNFCCC’s extensive archives in an effort to make climate knowledge open and accessible and to ultimately inspire action.
As an ambassador, the Punjabi rapper will raise awareness and support the Digital Climate Library’s development.
He said: “Through this role, I hope to use my platform to bring attention to the issue, share knowledge, and be part of a movement that pushes for a better future, not just for all of us, but for future generations as well.
“I hope our combined efforts create a positive impact in addressing climate change and fostering sustainable living for all species on our planet.”
As a globally popular artist with 5 billion music streams and a personal connection to sustainability, Shubh is a fitting advocate for the DCL.
His 2023 album Still Rollin reached number 18 on the Billboard Canadian Albums chart while his 2024 follow-up EP Leo peaked at number 19.
Shubh’s single ‘King S**t’ debuted at number 13 on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100.
He’s also charted in India, New Zealand and the UK.
He is getting ready for a big 2025 and with a far-reaching audience, Shubh fits the Digital Climate Library’s mission to activate diverse voices and make climate knowledge accessible across borders.
Jingwen Yang, Information Management Officer at the UNFCCC, said:
“Shubh exemplifies the extraordinary power of art to raise awareness about the importance of preserving endangered archival collections documenting the history and legacy of the climate change process.
“Through his global influence, he engages diverse audiences, emphasising the critical need to safeguard and make accessible historic information that informs future generations.
“His commitment aligns seamlessly with the mission of the Digital Climate Library, ensuring this invaluable knowledge remains available to inspire and guide global action.
“We are honoured to have him join us in this vital initiative and look forward to the transformative impact his involvement will bring.”
Shubh said he would make more announcements about his ambassador role soon.
