Bangladeshi actor Ziaul Faruq Apurba has responded to reports from the Indian media that he had received death threats.

The reports suggested that the actor’s absence from the premiere of his debut Tollywood film, Chalchitra, was due to this reason.

The West Bengal-based publication Anandabazar claimed that Apurba skipped the December 20, 2024 premiere, despite the actor holding a valid Indian visa.

It cited death threats as the reason – a claim Apurba has now called baseless.

The rumours quickly gained traction on social media and Indian news outlets, surprising Apurba and his colleagues.

Addressing the issue, the actor clarified that his absence had nothing to do with threats.

He claimed that it was totally due to professional obligations.

Apurba stated: “The reasons reported in the Indian media are false. I couldn’t attend the premiere because of my shooting schedule.

“I have no involvement in politics, and such issues do not concern me.”

Apurba revealed that his absence stemmed from a packed work schedule.

On December 13, 2024, he sustained injuries while filming the web film How Sweet, which delayed its production.

Following his recovery, he returned to the set to complete the project, intending to travel to Kolkata on December 17.

However, further scheduling conflicts arose when he needed to prioritise shooting a drama directed by Zakaria Soukhin.

Apurba could not delay it as the director was set to travel abroad.

Filming for the drama took place in a remote location near the Bangladesh-India border in Rajshahi.

This left Apurba unable to attend the Chalchitra premiere, sparking the conspiracy.

Despite being unable to join the festivities in person, Apurba celebrated his Tollywood debut by staying updated on audience reactions whenever possible.

The actor expressed gratitude for the support his film received.

This incident isn’t the first time Bangladeshi actors have been the subject of misleading reports in the Indian media.

Previously, it was falsely claimed that Chanchal Chowdhury had been placed under house arrest – a rumour he vehemently denied.

Meanwhile, Ziaul Faruq Apurba’s performance in Chalchitra is garnering praise from Indian fans, who have shared their positive feedback.

Many of their heartfelt messages were reposted by the star himself on his Facebook page, reflecting the warm reception of his Tollywood debut.
