"I was sure I was going to die during that show."
Yo Yo Honey Singh cleared the air about the rumour that Shah Rukh Khan smacked him during a tour in the United States, which led him to get stitches in his head.
The rapper broke his silence in his Netflix documentary Yo Yo Honey Singh: Famous.
Honey performed the hit song ‘Lungi Dance’ for Chennai Express and was called to tour alongside Shah Rukh.
He agreed to the tour even though he was overworked and exhausted at the time.
In the documentary, Honey said that this was the first time he noticed something was wrong with his mind.
He said: “Now, nine years later, let me tell you what really happened. Nobody knows what I’m going to tell you on camera now.
“When they took me to Chicago for the show, I didn’t want to perform.
“I was sure I was going to die during that show. Everyone told me that I should get ready, but I refused.
“My managers came over, and they said, ‘Why aren’t you getting ready?’ and I said ‘I’m not going’. I went to the washroom, took a trimmer and I shaved my hair off.
“I said, ‘How will I perform now?’ They said, ‘Wear a cap and perform’.
“There was a coffee mug lying there. I picked it up and smashed it on my head.”
This caused the subsequent rumours that Shah Rukh attacked him.
He said: “Someone started the rumour that Shah Rukh Khan slapped me. That man loves me, he’ll never raise his hand on me.”
After the incident, Honey Singh’s sister said that it convinced her that he should return to India immediately.
She was in tears as she recalled receiving the phone call during the documentary.
Sitting next to her, Honey’s mother and father were also emotional.
She said: “I was in my room. He messaged that something is not right with me.
“He said can you come on Skype and then he said please come and save me. Then it disconnected. I was trying to reach out to (his ex-wife) Shalini.
“She said, ‘He has to do the show, you convince him to do the show’. I said I can’t. He told me that he isn’t feeling okay and that something bad is happening.
“For three hours, there was no contact with them.
“Three hours later, I’m told he’s in the hospital with stitches in his head.”
Yo Yo Honey Singh: Famous is directed by Mozez Singh.
