"The media seems to be in overdrive and spreading false news."
Dharmendra’s family has condemned false reports claiming that the 89-year-old star has passed away.
The Bollywood legend, who has been on ventilator support since November 10, remains hospitalised and under observation.
It is reported that his condition is “critical” but stable.
Dharmendra was admitted to hospital after complaining of breathlessness, just months after undergoing an eye graft surgery in April.
Hema Malini issued a health update, thanking fans for their concern:
“I thank everyone for their concern about Dharam ji who is in hospital for observation.
“He is being continuously monitored and we are all with him. I request you all to pray for his welfare and speedy recovery.”
However, some Indian media outlets soon began posting news articles, falsely claiming that the actor had passed away, which drew backlash from fans.
One wrote on X: “It’s shameful, just in need of TRP. The news channels are broadcasting false news.”
Another said: “Take them to the gutters and sue them for all that they earned for all the lies that they constantly spread time and time again, these insensitive vultures.
“Shame on these dumb f***s, they need to be taken to task it’s about them.”
Esha Deol took to Instagram to hit out at the false claims, writing:
“The media seems to be in overdrive and spreading false news. My father is stable and recovering. We request everyone to give our family privacy.
“Thank you for the prayers for papa’s speedy recovery.”
The actor’s daughter also disabled comments on her post, citing the family’s need for privacy as online speculation intensified.

Hema also slammed the false claims:
“What is happening is unforgivable!
“How can responsible channels spread false news about a person who is responding to treatment and is recovering?
“This is being extremely disrespectful and irresponsible. Please give due respect to the family and its need for privacy.”
Her remarks have sparked wider criticism of Indian media outlets for prioritising sensationalism over accuracy, especially when dealing with sensitive health-related news.
Several celebrities, including Shah Rukh Khan and his son Aryan, Salman Khan, Govinda, and Ameesha Patel, visited Dharmendra at the hospital, showing solidarity with the Deol family.
Dharmendra remains one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated icons, known for classics such as Sholay, Dharam Veer, Chupke Chupke, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, and Dream Girl.
Earlier this year, he appeared in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya alongside Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon. He will next be seen in Ikkis, starring Agastya Nanda, set for release on December 25.
