“They called my wife asking how this could happen.”
Veteran actor Mehmood Aslam has strongly condemned the false news of his death that recently spread across social media.
He called it deeply disturbing and irresponsible.
Appearing on the show Suno To Sahi, the star opened up about how the baseless rumour shook his family and friends.
The actor explained that the fake news began circulating online, quickly reaching people around the world.
Mehmood shared that calls started pouring in from countries like the USA and Canada, with people checking if the reports were true.
His daughter and son-in-law were among those left in disbelief.
He recalled: “They called my wife asking how this could happen.”
Mehmood further revealed that some of his close relatives who were already unwell were emotionally impacted by the rumour.
Mehmood Aslam stressed how his colleagues were also affected.
Fellow actors Waseem Abbas and Kashif Mehmood were reportedly so upset they halted their shoots.
He revealed: “This was not just a rumour, it was a shockwave for people who care.”
Previously taking to Instagram shortly after the hoax began trending, Mehmood Aslam shared a video to address the rumours directly:
“I’m Mehmood Aslam, breathing, fit and alive in front of you.”
He expressed his disbelief that someone could carelessly post such a sensitive claim without confirming its authenticity.
He added: “This might be amusing content for some people, but it is devastating for those connected to me.”
Aslam pleaded with social media users to consider the real-life consequences of such falsehoods.
“Please think of my friends and family, relatives and fans. This kind of news affects them deeply.
“You can report real deaths so people can offer their condolences, but spreading fake death news is just cruel.”
The actor closed his message by asking people to pray not only for him but also for those who deliberately spread misinformation.
He urged:
“Think ten times before doing something like this. It’s not a joke. It causes real pain.”
This incident follows a string of similar celebrity death hoaxes in Pakistan.
Previously, singer Alamgir was falsely reported dead. This prompted actress Bushra Ansari to share a video of her phone call with him to confirm he was alive.
The growing trend of such rumours continues to raise concerns over online accountability and the emotional impact of misinformation.
