"the best thing to hold on to in life is each other!"
Bengali actress and newly-elected MP Nusrat Jahan married her longtime boyfriend Nikhil Jain in June 2019 and held a lavish reception on July 4.
Prominent individuals from the Bengali film industry, as well as politicians, were invited to the wedding reception.
Film directors and actors that Nusrat has worked with also attended the celebration. Her family and friends were also present.
The actress wore a regal maroon-coloured gown while her new husband sported an embroidered black outfit.
The couple were married on June 19 in the Turkish town of Bodrum and Nusrat looked every bit the traditional bride in a red designer lehenga.
Her husband Nikhil has a thriving textile business in the city. The pair met in 2018 while Nusrat was working as the face of his company Rangoli.
When they announced their engagement, Nusrat wrote:
“When reality is finally better than your dreams, the best thing to hold on to in life is each other!”
A source close to Nusrat said: “This red lehenga look and most other attires except one were designed by Rangoli with inputs from Nikhil himself.”
Their Turkey-based wedding was followed up with a lavish reception in Kolkata at ITC Royal and Nusrat was hands-on in the organisation of it.
She took care of the desserts, which included special sweets from Basirhat, and the Bengali food section.
The source added: “The cuisine was a mix of Italian, Bengali, pure vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes.
“The vegetarian section was being planned carefully keeping her in-laws’ (who are Jains) guest list in mind.
“But the actress took care of the Bengali food section as she loves hilsa, prawns and bhekti preparations.”
“Nusrat has a sweet tooth so she is taking special care of the desserts. Special makha sandesh from Basirhat is a part of the menu along with several sweets fused with mangoes.”
The likes of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, senior Trinamool Congress leader Partha Chatterjee, Kolkata mayor Firhad Hakim, Abhishek Banerjee and well-known industrialists in Kolkata attended after Nusrat made personal phone calls to them.
The 29-year-old actress became the MP for Basirhat after defeating BJP candidate Sayantan Basu.
Nusrat Jahan was supposed to take part in the oath-taking ceremony in Lok Sabha on June 17 and 18 but due to her wedding, she missed it.
Fellow actress and MP Mimi Chakraborty also missed the oath-taking ceremony to be at her best friend’s side. She also attended the reception.
Among the celebrities included Bengali superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee, actor Jeet, director Birsa Dasgupta.
The entire family of actress Moon Moon Sen and many other celebrities were at the stunning celebration and congratulating the couple.
