"I was wrongly portrayed, and now I have clarified it.”
Bengali actress Nusrat Jahan has spoken about her marriage to businessman Nikhil Jain, which has been shrouded in controversy.
The pair tied the knot in 2019 in Turkey after dating for a while. However, the pair separated in 2020.
The matter caused controversy after Nusrat revealed that her wedding to Nikhil was invalid under Indian laws.
According to Nusrat, it was nothing more than a live-in relationship.
Now Nusrat, who is also a politician, has opened up about the controversy surrounding her marriage.
She explained: “They did not pay for my wedding, they did not pay for the hotel bills.
“I don’t have to say anything to them. I am honest. I was wrongly portrayed, and now I have clarified it.”
Nusrat went on to say that it is easy to blame others or show others in a bad light. But throughout the controversy, she did not bring anyone down.
Nusrat Jahan previously said that her marriage to Nikhil was invalid as it was not registered under the Special Marriage Act.
She had accused him of misappropriating her funds, even after their separation.
However, he denied the allegations, calling them “baseless, derogatory and devoid of truth”.
In a statement, Nikhil had said:
“After marriage, to get her released from the heavy interest burden of a home loan, I had the same liquidated by transferring money from my family accounts to her account, on understanding that she would return the same shortly by instalments and as and when the funds are available.
“Any money transfer made by her from her account to my family account was repayments of the loan which I gave in good faith.
“A considerable amount is still due to be paid.”
Since their separation, Nusrat Jahan is heavily rumoured to be in a relationship with Yash Dasgupta, however, it has never been confirmed.
In August 2021, Nusrat gave birth to a baby boy named Yishaan.
On being asked about her “better half”, Nusrat said:
“I think that’s a vague question to ask and puts a black spot on somebody’s character as a woman, who the father is.
“The father knows who the father is and we are having a great parenthood together at the moment.”
After the birth of her son, Nikhil had said: “I wish the baby boy has a bright future.”
