"I will consider her [Tuba] my elder sister.”
Aamir Liaquat’s third wife Syeda Dania Shah has expressed her thoughts on her husband’s ex-wife, Tuba Anwar.
The TV personality and his new wife have been in the headlines since they announced their marriage.
The marriage came just a day after his second wife, Tuba Anwar, announced she had filed for divorce.
Now, Dania Shah and Aamir Liaquat appeared together in an interview where they spoke about Tuba, with Aamir claiming that she is still his wife.
On the possibility of Tuba marrying again, Aamir said:
“If she [Tuba] marries again, it will be illegitimate because her khula is void.
“According to the Shariah, khula also requires the husband’s consent, it requires both parties to sit together and mutually agree to end their marriage.
“I would like to tell Tuba that she can spend her life however she wishes, work, do whatever, but she should respect the bounds of religion.
“She can even come back to me if she wishes but Dania is here to stay.”
Dania then added that she would be happy to live with Tuba, saying:
“I won’t mind that either, I will consider her [Tuba] my elder sister.”
Following the interview, Tuba took to Twitter to dismiss the claims that she was still Aamir’s wife.
In a lengthy post, Tuba said: “I wish to reiterate that I chose to divorce my ex-husband through the court system, as per my constitutional right as a Pakistani citizen.
“The divorce was granted by the honourable court in accordance with the laws of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.”
She went on to say that “everything else being claimed on the media is a complete misinterpretation of facts and holds no value in the court of law”.
“I also urge the Islamic scholars to speak up for women who choose to exercise their rights in accordance with the Sharia and Pakistan’s constitution.”
Tuba added that “Islam permits women to seek divorce if [their] marriage is no longer working”, allowing them to take a “graceful exit from a toxic and abusive marriage”.
“It is a right and not a sin.”
In his marriage announcement to Dania Shah, Aamir had said:
“I would like to request all of my well-wishers, please pray for us, I have just passed the dark tunnel, it was a wrong turn.”
It was his third marriage, having been previously married to Bushra Iqbal and Tuba Anwar.
