A 6-day-old baby was kidnapped from a government hospital in Dungarpur, Rajasthan, on February 28, 2021.

The incident was reported by the city’s MCH Hospital.

When investigated, a woman was seen running with the child on CCTV.

On February 24, 2021, Jyoti Mochi gave birth to this child.

After a normal delivery, the newborn child was admitted to the ICU on February 26, 2021, due to jaundice.

Jyoti was in the ward upstairs while the baby was taken to the ICU downstairs.

Jyoti’s mother-in-law and aunt were there with the newborn as attendants.

On Sunday, February 28, 2021, during the early hours of the day, all attendants were asked to wait outside while the ward was cleaned.

During this time, the child started crying and the staff asked for the attendants to come in.

It was at this time that the accused woman came in and claimed to be the mother of the child. She then took the child away.

While checking on Jyoti, the doctors asked for the child to be brought in. The attendants went to the ICU where they were informed of the theft.

There was chaos immediately. Police were informed and the CCTV was subsequently checked.

CCTV footage showed the woman fleeing with the newborn baby.

It also showed a teenage boy with the accused woman. The boy is believed to be 17 or 18-years-old.

The woman exited the hospital and went off with the teenager on a motorbike.

There were 15 other babies in the ward, but the woman ran away with Jyoti’s child.

It is believed that she entered and took away the first child she encountered.

The police launched an investigation and started analysing all CCTV footage in the city.

Jyoti’s husband, Rakesh Mochi, runs a general store in Kuwait.

The couple got married in February 2020 right before the pandemic happened. This was their first child.

Rakesh had gone back to Kuwait when the lockdown had eased, and flights had resumed.

Jyoti had family in Dungarpur which is why they had decided to have the baby there.

Her mother-in-law had come to the city from Banswara, Rajasthan.

Since the kidnapping of the 6-day-old baby, Jyoti has been in complete shock.

The police are actively investigating the case and hoping to find the thief.
