As a result, it is the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2024.
Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao’s Stree 2 continues to break records at the box office.
Released on August 15, 2024, the film has grossed over Rs. 750 Crore (£68 million).
Also starring Abhishek Banerjee, Pankaj Tripathi and Aparshakti Khurana, Stree 2 has captivated audiences since its release.
Directed by Amar Kaushik, the film opened to great reviews from both audiences and critics.
It faced stiff competition from Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein and John Abraham’s Vedaa.
Stree 2 is a sequel to the 2018 film and picks up where the first story left off.
While the first movie centred on a vengeful female ghost wronged in life, the sequel introduces a new villain, Sarkata, a headless figure.
In Stree 2, Sarkata targets women with independent voices in Chanderi, abducting them as the central plot unfolds.
It is up to a group of friends to defeat the malevolent entity.
On its fourth Saturday, the movie’s net collection in India reached Rs. 540 Crore (£48 million), with a gross total of Rs. 637 Crore (£57 million).
The overseas collection stands at Rs. 130 Crore (£11.8 million), bringing the worldwide total to Rs. 766 Crore (£69 million).
As a result, it is the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2024.
In addition, Stree 2 is the second highest-grossing Indian film of 2024, with only Kalki 2898 AD ahead of it.
Stree 2‘s box office success means it is now the eighth highest-grossing Hindi film of all time and the only 2024 release in the top 25.
The film is expected to cross the Rs. 800 Crore (£72 million) mark soon, provided it maintains its current pace.
Stree 2 crossed the Rs. 500 Crore (£45 million) mark at the domestic box office in just 22 days.
It became the second-fastest Hindi film to achieve this after Jawan, which did so in 18 days.
It is also just Rs. 3 Crore (£272,000) away from surpassing the lifetime collection of Pathaan, which earned Rs. 543.22 Crore (£49 million) domestically, marking another major milestone.
By day 24, Stree 2 collected Rs. 516.25 Crore (£46.7 million) in India.
Comparatively, the Hindi version of Baahubali 2 had a collection of Rs. 510.99 Crore (£46.2 million) in India.
Speaking about the film’s success, Rajkummar Rao previously said:
“We were sure that the film would get a lot of love because of the love that Stree 1 got.
“There’s a big fan-following for Stree, including me. I am a huge fan of Stree myself.
“But these numbers are way above our expectations. We are glad and super elated.”
“There’s a lot of gratitude that this is happening with a film like Stree because it is a content-driven film.”
As Stree 2 continues to make waves both domestically and internationally, it is clear that the film has set a new standard for success in Indian cinema.
