"there’s no getting around the fact that the subject is heavy."
John Abraham is currently dealing with the disappointing performance of his latest film, Vedaa.
Despite the film not doing well at the box office, John said that he is still very proud of the work.
The action-drama was the second collaboration between John Abraham and director Nikkhil Advani after Batla House.
Batla House was a box office success despite it clashing with Akshay Kumar’s Mission Mangal.
Fans expected a similar outcome for John and Nikkhil’s latest collaboration.
However, the overwhelming success of Stree 2 crushed those hopes.
Stree 2, starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, dominated the Independence Day weekend.
It left both Vedaa and Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein far behind in box office collections.
Despite the failure, John Abraham expressed his support for the film.
He said: “It’s a brave film to do.
“I wanted to work with Nikkhil again after Batla House.
“Honestly, more than success and failure, it’s the message that you’re sharing via your film that’s more important.
“We’ve told it in an entertaining way, but there’s no getting around the fact that the subject is heavy.
“And if people aren’t interested in watching films with heavy subjects, that’s their choice.
“I respect it. But you have to face the subject at the end of the day.
“I’m very proud that we made a very good film.
“This is possibly Nikkhil and my best work together.
“Often, there’s regret when your film doesn’t work commercially.
“You feel bad. Usually, it stems from uncertainty about the film itself.
“But with Vedaa, we’ve got practically everything right.
“Our cast has performed brilliantly, every department, from cinematography to action, has done well.
“People will find things to complain about with the screenplay, and that’s fine. We respect everybody’s point of view.
“But I’m proud we’ve made a good film.”
John Abraham mentioned various nationally reported rape cases and explained that these incidents influenced Vedaa‘s narrative.
Giving his thoughts on the rape-murder case of a doctor in Kolkata, he warned boys to “behave”.
He said: “I’ll tell the boys to behave, otherwise I’ll tear them apart.
“Honestly, I just expect a better upbringing, on a serious note.
“And I wouldn’t tell girls anything, because what fault is it of theirs? I think parents have to tell boys to behave.
“More power to the girls.”
On the work front, he will next be seen in Shivam Nair’s The Diplomat alongside Sadia Khateeb, Kumud Mishra, and Sharib Hashmi.
John Abraham will also appear in Arun Gopalan’s action-thriller Tehran, co-starring Manushi Chhillar and Neeru Bajwa.
Both films are co-produced under his banner, John Abraham Entertainment.
