"I’ll tell the boys to behave, otherwise I’ll tear them apart."
John Abraham shared his reaction to the Kolkata rape case and stated that he would not want to offer any words of advice to women because they are not at fault.
The actor also issued a warning to boys as he encouraged parents to do a better job raising their male children.
In an interview, John discussed his latest film Vedaa, which explores themes of violence against women.
When asked if he had any words for India’s youth, John said:
“I’ll tell the boys to behave, otherwise I’ll tear them apart.”
He went on to say: “Honestly, I just expect a better upbringing, on a serious note.
“And I wouldn’t tell girls anything, because what fault is it of theirs?
“I think parents have to tell boys to behave. More power to the girls.”
During a podcast, John explained that as a patriot, he believes it is necessary to highlight India’s flaws.
He said: “Women, children and animals are not safe in India. It is sad. Indian men need to understand how to treat their women.
“It’s important for Indian men to learn how to treat women. They need to be protectors.”
The incident in Kolkata has sparked widespread outrage.
Moumita Debnath’s brutalised body was discovered in a seminar room at RG Kar Medical College, where she had gone to take a break.
An autopsy revealed she had been raped and sexually assaulted before being strangled to death.
The postmortem report also revealed that around 150mg of semen was found in the vaginal swab.
The finding, along with the extent of injuries, led to suggestions that Moumita may have been gang-raped.
The crime sparked outrage and doctors have held protests across the country. Doctors have also refused to see non-emergency patients.
Civic volunteer Sanjay Roy was arrested in connection with the rape and murder.
Analysis of his phone revealed “disturbing and violent” pornography clips.
His neighbours have also claimed that he has been married several times, with three of his wives leaving Roy due to his abusive nature.
Others described Roy as a habitual offender, with a pattern of violence against women.
Meanwhile, John Abraham’s film Vedaa centres on a Dalit girl who is being abused by the upper caste.
However, it has received mixed reviews and earned just Rs. 21 Crore at the box office.
