In an exciting turn of events, Varun Dhawan took to his social media to confirm his involvement in Border 2.
The upcoming film is a sequel to Sunny Deol’s 1997 blockbuster, Border.
In the original war film, Sunny starred as Major Kuldip Singh Chandpuri. The movie was directed by JP Dutta.
While Dutta will not direct the sequel, he will produce the film.
Posting a clip on Instagram, Varun Dhawan opened up about his casting in Border 2.
He wrote: “I was just a kid in class four when I went to Chandan cinema and saw Border. It made such a big impact.
“I still remember the sense of national pride we all felt in the hall.
“I began looking up to our armed forces and to this day, I salute how they protect us and keep us safe be it on our borders or during natural calamities.
“JP Dutta sir’s war epic remains one of my most favourite movies to this day.
“To play a part in Border 2 produced by JP sir and Bhushan Kumar is a very, very special moment in my career.
“And I get to work with Sunny Paaji, my hero. It makes it all the more special.
“I look forward to bringing a valiant Jawaan’s story to screen in what promises to be India’s biggest war film.
“I seek your good wishes. Jai Hind.”

The announcement led to positive reactions from users.

The sequel to Border was confirmed by Sunny Deol in June 2024.
Before that, a source suggested that Border 2 was in the works.
It stated: “The team behind Border 2 has been working tirelessly to prepare everything and it’s been a long time in the making as they wanted to do justice to the magnitude of the first film.
“Now, as the preparations are almost done, the team will begin shooting, as it stands now, the team will begin shooting in October.”
Border 2 marks the first time Sunny Deol and Varun Dhawan will be seen onscreen together.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Sunny was last seen in Gadar 2 (2023). He also has films such as Baap and Lahore 1947 in the pipeline.
Varun Dhawan was last seen in a special appearance in Stree 2 (2024).
Border 2 is scheduled to be released in 2026.
