In an interesting turn of events, Sunny Deol announced the upcoming Border 2.
It is a sequel to his beloved classic Border (1997), where the actor starred as Major Kuldip Singh Chandpuri.
The movie was based around the Battle of Longewala during the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War.
Border opened to excellent box office, and was declared an “all-time blockbuster”.
The film also featured Jackie Shroff (Andy Bajwa), Suniel Shetty (Bhairon Singh) and Akshaye Khanna (Dharamvir Singh Bhan).
Since its release, fans have been demanding a sequel to the film.
On June 12, 2024, Sunny Deol teased his fans with an exciting announcement to be made the next day.
Some fans correctly guessed it was for a sequel to Border.
Following this, Sunny posted a video clip announcing the film. In the announcement, he utters in a regal voice:
“27 years ago, a soldier made a promise to return.
“To fulfil that promise and to salute the soil of India, he is coming again.”
Sonu Nigam’s hit song ‘Sandese Aate Hai‘ was also briefly played in the clip.
Border 2 will be directed by Anurag Singh while JP Dutta, who helmed the first film, will serve as the producer.
The announcement elicited positive reactions from fans.
One user said: “This was long overdue, Sunny Paaji.
“If well-made, this will do the same kind of magic like Gadar 2. Can’t wait!”
Another predicted: “Another ATBB loading for Sunny Deol.
“Hopefully this time they will be able to justify the legacy of Border.“
A third added: “F**king goosebumps! Can’t wait.”
A report previously suggested that there would be a sequel to Border.
It stated: “The team behind Border 2 has been working tirelessly to prepare everything and it’s been a long time in the making as they wanted to do justice to the magnitude of the first film.
“Now, as the preparations are almost done, the team will begin shooting, as it stands now, the team will begin shooting in October.”
It is currently unknown as to when the sequel will be released or if any other actors from the original will be reprising their roles.
With such euphoria and adulation, Border 2 promises to satisfy a desire in some fans in a memorable and exciting way.
On the work front, Sunny was last seen in Gadar 2 (2023).
A sequel of his historic Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001), the film was a humongous success.
Along with Border 2, Sunny Deol also has the likes of Baap and Lahore, 1947 on the cards.
