Sunny Deol says Preity Zinta is like a ‘Bubble who Enjoys Everything!’

Sunny Deol has praised Preity Zinta’s energy as the pair reunite on screen for Batwara 1947, saying she is like a “bubble who enjoys everything”.

Batwara 1947 marks Preity’s return to the big screen after an eight-year hiatus and sees her reunite with Sunny.

Preity last featured in 2018’s Bhaiaji Superhit, which also starred Sunny Deol.

Set during the Partition of India, Batwara 1947 follows a family forced to leave their home and navigate the upheaval and uncertainty of a divided society.

Speaking to DESIblitz in an exclusive interview about his new film, Sunny Deol said working with Preity again had been an enjoyable experience.

He stated: “Oh, it has always been fun working with her and again I’m working with her after many years.”

Sunny also spoke about Preity’s personality and the qualities she brought to her role as Hamida Mirza.

He described her as someone whose lively nature translated into the role, bringing warmth to a story centred on displacement, loss and the search for a home.

Sunny said: “She’s a girl who’s full of life, who is like a bubble who enjoys everything.”

The actor believes those qualities helped Preity bring a different emotional dimension to the film, particularly as the story deals with the experiences of a family caught up in the consequences of Partition.

He added: “She brings in the beauty, the sweetness and the happiness with the character in the film.

“She’s done a great job. It has been great chemistry between her and me.”

Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan under Aamir Khan Productions, Batwara 1947 is set in Lahore during the aftermath of Partition.

The film follows Sikander Mirza and his family after they migrate from Lucknow to Lahore, where they are eventually given a haveli whose Hindu owners were forced to leave for India.

The film approaches Partition through the experiences of a family rather than focusing solely on the political events of 1947.

For Sunny Deol, that human perspective is central to the story, particularly as families were forced to confront circumstances that changed their lives within weeks or months.

Batwara 1947 is scheduled to release theatrically on August 14, 2026, coinciding with India’s Independence Day weekend.
