Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar on 'Highest Paid' Forbes List

It seems that Shahrukh Khan failed to make it on to the 2018 list

Bollywood actors Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar have successfully made the Forbes highest-paid celebrities list for 2018.

The 2018 list compiled by Forbes is based on how much money the entertainers made between 2017 and 2018.

Floyd Mayweather came top making a jaw-dropping $285 million (approx. £218 million). He’s closely followed by George Clooney who’s pulled in $239 million (approx. £183 million).

Taking the 76th rank is Akshay Kumar who reportedly made $40.5 million (approx. £31 million) in the year-long period. Whilst Khan makes the 82nd rank, bringing home $37.7 million (approx. £28.9 million) over the same period.

Kumar and Khan’s combined wealth from 2017-2018 is therefore estimated to be somewhere around a staggering $78.2 million (approx. £59.9 million)!

The 50-year-old actor Akshay Kumar was described by the magazine as a leading man in Bollywood who makes his money through brand endorsement and backend profits. They said:

“One of Bollywood’s leading men has transitioned to socially-conscious roles, such as ‘Toilet,’ a comedy supporting government campaigns to improve sanitation, and ‘Padman,’ about a guy hoping to provide inexpensive sanitary pads to rural communities.

“He still mints millions from backend profits and endorsing some 20 brands, including Tata and Eveready.”

Forbes claims that Salman Khan, 52, also makes plenty of his money from endorsements and backend profits. They added that he continues to be a top-earner in India, saying:

“This Bollywood mainstay continues to produce and star in hits such as ‘Tiger Zinda Hai,’ cashing in on backend profits. Coupled with a slew of endorsements from Suzuki motorcycles to Chlormint gum, he remains one of India’s top earners.”

However, this year it seems that Shahrukh Khan failed to make it on to the 2018 list. In 2017, the Bollywood superstar raked in $38 million (approx. £29 million), gaining him the 65th spot on the list.

For 2017, Forbes top 10 highest-earning Bollywood actors also included Salman Khan who made the list alongside Shahrukh Khan and Aamir Khan.

Actresses that made the distinguished list in the same year included the talented Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra.

The top ten from the 2018 Forbes highest-paid celebrities list are as follows:

  1. Floyd Mayweather: $285 million (approx. £218 million)
  2. George Clooney: $239 million (approx. £183 million)
  3. Kylie Jenner: $166.5 million (approx. £127 million)
  4. Judy Sheindlin: $147 million (approx. £112 million)
  5. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson: $124 million (approx. £95 million)
  6. U2: $118 million (approx. £90 million)

  9. Ed Sheeran: $110 million (approx. £84 million)
  10. Cristiano Ronaldo: $108 million (approx. £82.7 million)

In 2018, the top 100 celebrities in the world earned a combined $6.3 billion (approx. £4.8 billion) pretax over the past 12 months. This is an increase of 22% from 2017.

Not to mention, eleven of the celebrities on the list even passed the $100 million (approx. £76.6 million) mark. This is more than double the number from the last two years combined.

To be specific, the Forbes top 100 highest-paid celebrities list judges the wealth of front-of-camera stars from around the world. They do this by analysing their pretax earnings.

For 2018, the earnings were determined between the period of June 1st, 2017 through to June 1st, 2018. After this, they make sure that they deduct any manager, lawyer and/or agent fees.

To calculate how much these celebs are earning, Forbes uses data from a range of sources. This includes using Nielsen, Pollstar, IMDB, SoundScan, NPD BookScan and ComScore.

Not to mention, the global media company also form their estimates of annual wealth from interviews with industry experts and even from many of the stars themselves.

Whilst our Bollywood actors didn’t make it to the top ten this time, we hope to see an increasing number of Bollywood stars making the top 100 highest-paid celebs in the future.

On the work front, we recently saw Khan in the thrilling Race 3 (2018), whilst Kumar will next appear in the sports drama Gold.
