"People thought it was fake or staged."
Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan has opened up about the terrifying night of the robbery at his Bandra home, revealing that his younger son Jehangir Ali Khan was also hurt.
The actor revisited the traumatic incident while appearing on Two Much, the new Prime Video talk show hosted by Kajol and Twinkle Khanna.
He was joined by his Haiwaan co-star Akshay Kumar, ahead of their upcoming reunion in Priyadarshan’s film.
During the candid conversation, Saif recalled how the incident unfolded in January.
He shared that he had gone to bed around 2 am with his sons, Taimur and Jeh, after watching a movie.
Kareena Kapoor Khan had been out that evening and returned shortly before the attack.
“Suddenly, the maid came in, and she said that somebody was there in Jeh’s room and asking for money,” Saif revealed.
“I barged into Jeh’s room in the dark, and I saw this guy standing over his bed with a knife.”
Saif went on to share that the intruder had already slightly cut Jeh’s hand and injured the nanny while threatening them.
Acting instinctively, the actor tackled the man to protect his family.
“I thought he was smaller than me, so I jumped on him,” he recalled.
“He had two knives and started slashing all over me. I tried to remember my training and blocked him a couple of times.”
The actor sustained serious injuries to his neck, back and waist during the fight, with a piece of the knife still lodged in his spine when he reached the hospital.
“I suddenly felt this thump in my back, and that was really very hard and bad,” he said.
The incident left his children terrified, with Taimur even asking his father if he was going to die.
Despite the chaos, Saif stayed calm and reassured his sons before heading to the hospital for treatment.
Saif also shared fresh details about what happened after the attack, including how he was admitted to hospital and later discharged.
He revealed that when he arrived at the emergency room, he asked for a stretcher but was initially ignored.
“We walked into the hospital, and they were sleepy in the emergency area,” Saif said.
“I told a guy, ‘Can we get a stretcher?’ He said, ‘Wheelchair?’ I said, ‘No, I think I need a stretcher.’ He said no. Finally, I said, ‘Hey, I’m Saif Ali Khan. It’s a medical emergency.’ Then all the pandemonium broke loose.”
The Vikram Vedha actor spent five days in hospital before being discharged.
However, he was widely trolled online for walking out without a wheelchair.
Addressing the criticism, Saif explained that it was his choice to walk, even though it was painful.
“When it was finished, the media was curious. Nobody was listening to me,” he said. “I said, ‘If the media is curious, we should settle it. Let me just walk out because I can walk.’”
He added that his decision came from a place of reassurance, not pride.
“My instinct was, why create panic or worry for family, fans or well-wishers? Just walk out and send a picture message that you’re okay,” he explained.
“But then there was so much feedback on that — people thought it was fake or staged.”
Saif Ali Khan’s bravery that night made headlines across the nation, as he fought off a knife-wielding intruder to protect his family.
Now, months later, he continues to recover and reflect on the terrifying ordeal with calm and gratitude.
