"Why would she want that for herself? Look at where she studied."

While Bollywood eagerly awaits the debut of Sara Ali Khan, one person, in particular, has expressed his unhappiness over her career choice. This person is none other than Saif Ali Khan, the starlet’s own father!

In an interview with DNA, he explained how he felt dismayed by Sara’s decision to pursue acting. Saif Ali Khan even mentioned how she had studied at Columbia University in New York. Perhaps he had hoped she would follow a different career?

When asked about how he felt regarding Sara’s Bollywood debut, Saif Ali Khan responded:

“A little nervous. Fear is the most driving factor in the industry. Why would she want that for herself? Look at where she studied. After having done that, why wouldn’t she want to live and work in New York, rather than do this?”

However, the actor appeared quick to justify and defend his comments, adding:

“I am not looking down on acting, it’s just it is not the most stable profession. And everyone lives in constant fear. And there is no guarantee that despite doing your best, you will succeed. This is not the life, any parent would want for their children.”

While many can understand Saif’s intentions, that he wants his 23-year-old daughter to succeed in life, his comments are surprising.

Especially when you consider back in April 2017, Saif Ali Khan gave a completely different opinion. Back when speculation was rife that Sara would make her debut in The Student of the Year 2, Saif expressed his delight that she would work with Karan Johar.

But now, confirmation has shown that she will work with filmmaker Abhishek Kapoor rather than Karan Johar.

In addition, Saif Ali Khan denied any involvement with Sara’s Bollywood debut. When DNA asked him about her upcoming film, Kedarnath, he said:

“I wasn’t involved in it. Look, I am there if she needs to ask or talk to me about anything. I know what she is doing and we talk about films just like we do about everything else.”

During the rest of the interview, the Bollywood actor also spoke of his other children, 16-year-old Ibrahim and baby Taimur. He explained how the whole family works well in their set-up and the household contains support for each other.

As Saif prepares for his latest film Chef to hit cinemas, releasing on 14th July 2017, we wonder what Sara will make of his comments. While they may seem slightly surprising, his comments surely hail from nerves and protection for his eldest daughter.
