"Thank you for making my dream turn into reality."
Rishi Singh won Indian Idol 13, beating Deboshmita Roy and Chirag Kotwal to take the title.
Along with the winner’s trophy, Rishi took home a new car and Rs. 25 Lakh (£24,600) in prize money.
Both Deboshmita and Chirag received a trophy and Rs. 5 Lakh (£4,900).
The third and fourth runners-up, Bidipta Chakraborty and Shivam Singh, were given a cheque of Rs. 3 Lakh (£2,900) each.
Reacting to his win, Rishi said:
“I still can’t believe that I won the Indian Idol 13 trophy. The feeling is surreal!
“It was a dream come true moment for me when my name was announced as the winner of this season.
“It is a huge honour to be taking ahead the legacy of such a well-loved and prestigious show.
“I am grateful to the channel, the judges, and the entire team of Indian Idol for giving us such a wonderful platform to showcase our talent.
“I would also like to extend my gratitude to all my fans and viewers who have always supported me and voted for me to win this coveted title.
“Thank you for making my dream turn into reality.”
Debosmita Roy also spoke about her Indian Idol journey, saying:
“I can’t believe I had the opportunity to perform on such a huge platform in front of all the judges and special guests.
“It is a great achievement for me to see the smile and the pride in my parents’ eyes. When my name was announced as one of the finalists, it felt like I had already won the trophy. I owe it all to my parents.”
After winning the show, Rishi Singh revealed:
“Actually I couldn’t control my tears when my name was announced as the winner as the aura of a reality show like Indian Idol is unmatchable.
“Plus I had worked really hard.
“When I participated in the show, it was with a mindset to stay till the end. Even though I became popular on social media from early on, the competition was really tough, especially with my co-contestant Deboshmita Roy, who is also the first runner-up.
“So, I always thought that anybody could be the winner!”
On what he will do with the prize money, Rishi Singh said:
“I want to travel internationally to learn and develop my music further with this money. An artist always keeps on learning.
“I want international exposure now. I want to grow to an extent that I come back as a judge on the show someday.
“Meanwhile, I have got many playback offers during the show, which I will be pursuing along with my music video.”
