The extensive closure of entry and exit created major challenges

Authorities implemented strict measures ahead of a planned rally by the PTI Party at D-Chowk in Islamabad.

All entry and exit points were sealed, and mobile phone services were suspended, causing widespread disruption.

The Islamabad police announced that police facilitation centres and driving license offices would remain closed for the day.

In Rawalpindi, metro bus services were also halted, particularly affecting the route between Saddar and IJP Road.

To enforce security, heavy machinery was deployed in strategic locations, including Faizabad and the Islamabad Expressway.

Containers were set up to block all traffic. The authorities heightened security measures in Rawalpindi, with approximately 4,000 police officers assigned to maintain order.

Major routes from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were sealed off with containers, effectively shutting down the M1 motorway at four key junctions.

This included GT Road, Attock Khurd, Hassanabdal, and Chashma Point.

Additionally, access to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was obstructed at multiple points, further complicating travel in the region.

The extensive closure of entry and exit created major challenges for tourists.

Moreover, it also added to the disruptions resulting from the ongoing protest preparations.

In light of the protests, private schools in Rawalpindi and Islamabad were closed for the day.

The Islamabad Private School Association announced these closures, citing safety concerns and roadblocks as primary reasons.

In response to PTI supporters gathering at D-Chowk, police also arrested six more individuals.

This brought the total number of arrests to over 20 across the city.

Tensions escalated at the Burhan Interchange, where a standoff occurred between a convoy from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and police forces.

Islamabad police arrested Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan, the sisters of former PTI founder Imran Khan.

The two were taken into custody along with several other party members during the protest.

Clashes erupted as law enforcement used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse PTI supporters.

This resulted in multiple injuries among both demonstrators and police.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with protesters facing aggressive tactics from law enforcement.

As the situation continues to unfold, police are on high alert, with the potential for further unrest looming.

Meanwhile, in Lahore, authorities have already taken measures ahead of the PTI protest scheduled for October 5, 2024.

Containers have been placed around Minar-e-Pakistan, and heavy police personnel have been deployed in the area.

To further curb potential unrest, Section 144 – prohibiting public gatherings – has been imposed in four cities in Punjab: Lahore, Rawalpindi, Attock, and Sargodha.

Rangers have also been called in to assist with maintaining order.
