“Progressive states shouldn’t need to resort to bans!!"
Pakistan celebrities have taken to social media to voice their opinion against the impending YouTube ban in Pakistan.
On Wednesday, 22 July 2020, the Supreme Court of Pakistan hinted at shutting down the site in the nation because of “objectionable content” being shared on the site.
The popular video-sharing site came under fire after suspect Shaukat Ali was involved in a sectarian crime case.
Justice Qazi Muhammad Amin and Justice Mushir Alam claimed that YouTube users were wrongfully targeting their families after particular court rulings.
It was also stated that the public was provoked against the judiciary due to inappropriate content.
Now Pakistani celebrities have shared their concerns online.
Pakistani actress Zara Noor Abbas said:
“#YouTubeban There is a massive industry of content creators, digital makers and entertainers in Pakistan that survive on YouTube.
“Filter content would be a great idea but Banning YouTube will only create more idleness and negativity amongst the professionals and the public.”
