"it's all about doing tradition with a contemporary twist."

In a surprise, Masaba Gupta tied the knot with Satyadeep Misra, whom she met on the set of her Netflix show Masaba Masaba.

It was a low-key ceremony, surrounded by immediate family members.

Among those in attendance were Masaba’s actress mother Neena Gupta and her father Vivian Richards.

In a joint post announcing their marriage, the caption read:

“Married my ocean of calm, this morning.

“Here’s to many many lifetimes of love, peace, stability and most importantly laughter. And thanks for letting me pick the caption – this is gonna be great!”

Masaba and Satyadeep matched in light pink from her fashion label House of Masaba.

She said: “Both Satyadeep and I wore House of Masaba’s new bridal collection, which has yet to be launched. I guess this is the launch!”

Masaba’s silk lehenga featured gold embroidery and a lime green dupatta with a wallflower print on it. She chose bright colours and made the case for the return of colour to wedding wear.

She said: “I think that it’s all about doing tradition with a contemporary twist.

“It’s modern and versatile simultaneously, and it’s also very personal. It’s got an element of kitsch.”

Speaking about the wedding, Masaba told Vogue that she and Satyadeep wanted a small wedding.

She explained: “We wanted it to be very intimate because we felt that that was the right thing to do and we will not be celebrating in a big way going forward.

“However, there will be a party with close friends and family about 80–85 people who’ve had a meaningful relationship with Satyadeep and me.”

The designer went on to say that they did not want to waste money.

“The idea of choosing something intimate was because we’re both conscious of not wasting ridiculous amounts of money.

“We are extremely private people and we want to be in the presence of family and loved ones for memorable days like these.

“We’ve both been there before and we saw that it doesn’t make sense to do things that stress you out on such an important day.

“This is truly a private moment for both of us, and more than anything, we wanted to enjoy it.”

“I think the mistake couples sometimes make is that it becomes more about the outward validation of what you’re doing to please people.

“I didn’t want any of that. We both didn’t. We wanted to make this about ourselves.

“It meant a lot that my father flew down from the Caribbean. It’s the first time in my life that my stepfather, my father, my mother, my mother-in-law, and my sister-in-law are all going to be in the same room celebrating together.

“For me, that’s the biggest moment of my life, and I wanted that to be intimate.”

In her caption, Neena Gupta wrote:

“Today my daughter got married. There is a strange peace, happiness, gratitude and love in my heart.”
