"I’m really looking forward to it.”

Jaya Ahsan is stepping into the realm of Bangladeshi web series.

Her much-anticipated debut project, Jimmi, is directed by Ashfaque Nipun.

The web series was announced in March 2024 by Hoichoi and production has kicked off.

This marks a new chapter for the actress, who is excited to explore the evolving space of digital storytelling in her home country.

Jaya shared: “This project faced some delays for various reasons, but now everything is falling into place.

“It’s exciting to finally see the start of Jimmi.

“It’s my first web series, and I’m really looking forward to it.”

In Jimmi, Jaya plays a struggling government employee whose career has stagnated for a decade. This leads to tension in her household.

Her life takes an unexpected twist when she stumbles upon a box filled with cash in her office storeroom.

This discovery ignites a moral conflict, setting off a gripping exploration of ambition, temptation, and greed.

Jaya’s recent focus on Indian films has often led to speculation that she spends more time across the border than in Bangladesh.

However, she denied this narrative, clarifying that her time in India is purely dictated by work commitments.

The actress explained: “Traveling to Kolkata for shooting is no different than going on an outdoor schedule anywhere else.

“Once my work is done, I return to Dhaka. It’s that simple.”

She recounted a recent incident where assumptions about her location sparked confusion.

“Just the other day, I was working on a shoot in Sitakunda, but people assumed I was in India.

“I was right there in Bangladesh, yet the rumours kept swirling.”

In early December 2024, Jaya Ahsan made waves at the Filmfare OTT Awards, where she showcased a contemporary spin on Bangladesh’s iconic Jamdani saree.

While the innovative design drew admiration at the event, the online response was more divided.

But Jaya remained unfazed by the mixed reaction.

She said: “Some people loved it; others didn’t. A few even claimed I had crossed a line. But I don’t let these opinions weigh me down.”

For Jaya, promoting Jamdani in modern and unconventional ways is a way to ensure the fabric’s legacy endures.

She added: “Our heritage isn’t meant to be locked away. If we don’t adapt and experiment, it risks becoming obsolete.”

As she dives into Jimmi, Jaya also has an impressive line-up of films awaiting release.

In West Bengal, her film OCD is gearing up for its premiere.

Meanwhile, her Bangladeshi projects, including Nokshi Kanthar Jamin, Jaya Aar Sharmin, and Fereshteh, are set to hit theatres soon.

With Jimmi marking her entry into the Bangladeshi web series arena, Jaya Ahsan continues to expand her creative horizons.
