"She told me she wouldn't."
The latest episode of BBC’s EastEnders aired a surprising twist.
The instalment was uploaded to BBC iPlayer on Monday, December 2, 2024, at 6 am.
Just weeks after making his anticipated exit, Nish Panesar (Navin Chowdhry) made an unexpected return.
Nish was at the centre of ‘The Six’ storyline, which culminated during Christmas 2023.
Denise Fox (Diane Parish) smashed a bottle over his head to stop him from attacking his ex-wife, Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal).
However, it was Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters) who met his maker on the fateful night after Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) stabbed him.
Recent episodes of EastEnders showed a terminally ill Nish discover this, and he agreed to take the blame for Keanu’s murder.
His condition for doing so was that Suki got back together with him until he died.
Suki agreed, but Nish’s granddaughter, Avani Nandra-Hart (Aaliyah James), asked him to let her go.
Nish finally handed himself in to the police but asserted he would only plead guilty if Suki did not marry Eve Uniwn (Heather Peace).
One of the focuses of the latest EastEnders episode was Eve and Suki’s relationship.
After getting engaged, Eve recently left Suki after discovering her role in the cover-up of Keanu’s murder.
Eve returned to the Square in the episode, and Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) convinced her to make amends with Suki.
Meanwhile, Suki and the Panesar family were grappling with Nish’s plea hearing.
At first, Eve was unwilling to forgive Suki.
During the switching on of the Christmas lights, Suki’s son Vinny Panesar (Shiv Jalota) told Suki and Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) that Nish had pled guilty.
Vinny said: “He’s done a lot of questionable things, but I don’t think I’ll ever understand this.”
When Vinny left, Sharon told Suki: “It’s finally over. You are a free woman now.”
Eve then delivered a heartfelt speech dedicated to Suki, and the couple shared a kiss, reigniting their relationship.
As the family headed back home, Nish’s grandson, Davinder ‘Nugget’ Gulati (Juhaim Rasul Choudhary), waited outside as he answered a phone call.
The person at the other end of the line was none other than Nish as he spoke from prison.
Nish wanted to know why Suki did not turn up for his plea hearing. He asked Nugget:
“Something more important than showing up for her husband?”
Nish picked up on some background noise. Nugget said: “They have turned on the Christmas lights. The whole Square is out.”
Nish asked: “Are you sure that is all it is? Because it’s one thing my own family not turning up for me, but to hide things from me too?”
The villainous businessman heard Eve’s voice. Nugget then admitted to Nish: “The wedding is back on.”
Nish slowly croaked: “No, she told me she wouldn’t.”
As Nugget ended the call, Nish slumped over the phone box, defeat and menace vibrating in his eyes.
Will Eve and Suki ever be free of Nish Panesar?
EastEnders continues on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.
