‘The Six’ was one of the most rousing and captivating storylines in BBC’s EastEnders.
In February 2023, the show teased the plot with a special flash-forward sequence.
The sequence showed Kathy Cotton (Gillian Taylforth), Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean), Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner), Denise Fox (Diane Parish), Linda Carter (Kellie Bright), and Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal) surrounding a male body in the Queen Vic.
Sharon knelt by the body and whispered: “He’s dead.”
For the next 10 months, the storyline kept viewers guessing as to who the dead body could be and which woman was the murderer.
During Christmas 2023, the outcome was revealed by EastEnders. The women tried to fend off Nish Panesar (Navin Chowdhry) after he attacked Suki.
Denise ultimately hit Nish over the head with a bottle.
However, despite Nish being the body from the flash-forward sequence, he wasn’t the dead man.
This turned out to be Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters) after he tried to strangle Sharon.
To save her friend, Linda fatally stabbed Keanu with a meat thermometer.
Meanwhile, Nish went into a coma, and after recovering, he has been trying to find out what happened to him on the fateful night.
As EastEnders marks Halloween 2024, Nish grows suspicious after hearing Suki talk to Kathy.
As the women try to remember the statements given to the police, Nish begins asking questions.
Delving into the upcoming scenes, Navin explained: “Nish accidentally stumbles on nuggets of information.
“He doesn’t really know what’s going on, but he senses within the group some anxiety, particularly from Kathy to begin with and then from Suki.
“It isn’t something that was at the forefront of his mind, but then, seeing how suspicious they are behaving and remembering that he was nearly fatally hurt, he chooses to prod and investigate further.
“He wasn’t initially suspicious of them. He thought even though the entire story seemed quite bizarre and farfetched, he accepted it because, in his mind, there were other things to be concentrating on – his family and winning back Suki.”
The women are adamant that they are not hiding anything, but Nish won’t believe them. He even insists on going to the police station with them.
Navin continued: “I think it’s a mixture of disbelief and horror from Nish.
“Anger that this could happen to him and that these people who did this to him are walking around freely getting on with their lives while he nearly died.
“So there is a vengeful instinct within him to want to get back at the people that hurt him.
“But at the same time, the manipulative part of his character sees the opportunity he now has with this information, and it’s probably the best card he’s ever been dealt.”
Nish orders Suki to summon the women, who are terrified when they realise that their secret is no longer safe.
The next day, Suki is horrified when Nish moves back into the Panesar home.
Navin went on: “He’s totally going to use it for his advantage.
“He’s never had a better bargaining chip to blackmail Suki than the information which could send all of ‘The Six’ to jail.
“He now holds the key to all their freedom, and he’s going to use it to get exactly what he wants.”
“To his surprise, and out of nowhere, he suddenly has this wonderful opportunity to tighten his hold on his family and all around him.
“He’s been empowered, totally empowered.”
On the EastEnders night of Halloween, Nish gathers the women in the Vic, where they are nervous about what he has planned.
Has Nish outsmarted them?
Navin concluded: “He’s got one massive trick up his sleeve that I don’t think anyone could expect.
“Nobody can see the hand he’s going to play, and no one can imagine what he has in store on Halloween night.”
Nish Panesar is currently dying of a terminal illness in EastEnders.
It was recently announced that Navin would be leaving the show.
Although the actor did not confirm the news, a show insider teased that Nish’s exit would be impactful and dramatic.
