"I wish we had a romantic story to go alongside it"
Former Great British Bake Off star Ruby Bhogal revealed she is engaged to BBC presenter James Stewart.
The 34-year-old said yes after James got down on one knee during a recent trip to New York.
On Instagram, Ruby revealed James actually proposed more than three weeks ago but she wanted to tell each of her family members before making the engagement public.
However, the romantic moment was ruined by Ruby being struck by a bout of food poisoning.
Ruby Bhogal wrote: “Have deceptively been hiding my hand in the recent vids because it’s taken me about 3 weeks to tell most of my family whilst it took James a whole 3 minutes.
“I wish we had a romantic story to go alongside it but food poisoning managed to kick in right about 5 mins before he was about to propose and I was about to have a bridesmaid moment running across the street… so yay for love and yay for uncooked chicken in NYC.
“I love this life (time to start planning a big FAT Indian wedding but all I’m thinking about is the CAKE am I right?!)”
Prior to the proposal, James had pranked Ruby by hiding the ring in plain sight while she obliviously went about her day.
In a series of photos, Ruby is seen brushing her teeth, sleeping on a plane and walking through Central Park.
Meanwhile, James repeatedly flashes the ring without her noticing.

Fellow Bake Off contestants rushed to congratulate her.
Rahul Mandal, who won the cooking show in 2018, said:
“Congratulations, what amazing news. Waiting for this to happen for years. But the big question is ‘who is baking the cake?’…you have a lot of options, just saying.”
Ruby replied: “Thank you Rahul!! Is this you offering your services because consider yourself employed.”
Candice Brown, who won the show in 2016, said:
“Ahhhhh so many congratulations.”

Crystelle Pereira, who reached the final in 2021, said:
“Ahhh huge congratulations to the both of you!!
“All the [behind the scenes] pics are amazing. Sending you both so much love.”
Ruby Bhogal became a fan favourite after she made her debut on the Channel 4 show.
Her effortlessly messy ponytail and glowing skin left some viewers head over heels.
Men and women tweeted their admiration for Ruby’s physical attributes.
Ruby Bhogal also received more camera time than any other contestant on the premiere episode of season nine.
