Badhaai Ho (2018) follows the journey of 25-year-old Nakul (Ayushmann) who struggles to accept his middle-aged mother’s unexpected pregnancy.

His inability to come to terms with the situation put his relationship with his girlfriend Renee (Sanya) at risk.

Badhaai Do is helmed as a comedy film which will also comically tackle present-day issues.

Reportedly, Bhumi will be seen essaying the role of a PT teacher while Rajkummar will portray the role of a solo male cop in a women’s police station.

The duo will fall in love, however, hilarious circumstances follow suit.

According to an interaction with Mumbai Mirror, Bhumi revealed her excitement of starring in the sequel. She said:

Badhaai Ho (2018) is one of my favourite films in recent times and it is really exciting to take this franchise forward.

“For me, the script is one of the best that I have ever come across and I immediately wanted to do this film.

“My character again is strong, independent and author-backed and it gives me a lot of scope to bring a very different and cool character to life.

“This time too, the film will say something extremely relevant and relatable but in a hilarious manner.

“I’m also excited to share the screen space with Rajkummar for the first time.”

Bhumi also took to Instagram to share the news of the upcoming film. She said:

“The fun, the masti and the entertainment, sab kuch dobara in #BadhaaiDo.”

Rajkummar Rao also disclosed his eagerness about featuring in Badhaai Do. He said:

“I have played a cop before but never with this perspective. I look for layered characters and this is a perfect match.

“My character is surrounded by strong women at home and work and that adds immense depth to his personality.

“Junglee Pictures’ Bareilly Ki Barfi (2017) was a fabulous experience for me. Badhaai Do is a reunion in many ways.”

Produced by Junglee Pictures, director Harshavardhan Kulkarni said:

“I have always admired the kind of films that Junglee Pictures has made, so when they came to me with this social comedy, I was instantly on board.

“Just like the delightful Badhaai Ho (2018) the milieu of this film remains the same but with a fresh set of characters and a completely new zanier situation.”

Badhaai Do has also bought back Badhaai Ho’s dialogue writer, Akshat Ghildial and Suman Adhikary. Akshat said:

“Suman came up with this interesting idea and since I have a great relationship with Junglee I shared it with them.

“They liked it immediately and then, Harsh came on board. We had great fun developing it and hope the audience has an equally good time watching it.”

Reportedly, filming for Badhaai Do will commence in June 2020 and will likely release in 2021.
